Being a bench player in baseball can be a mixed bag.

The starting lineups of teams always garner the most attention. But, it’s the benches that hold some groups hidden talent. In the modern game, bench management has become vital to winning teams.

Chances are you’re there due to the starters being stacked already. Or, you might fill a certain spot when they need it most. Regardless of what type of bench player you are, there’s no doubt that the area has become extremely important in the modern era of baseball.

You could be someone like Brock Holt, who is a Swiss Army knife all over the field. Or, you might be able to hit certain pitching really well.

Effective bench management has become just as important as managing a bullpen. As a result, the fate of a game can be influenced or decided by proper bench usage. Some teams, of course, have built super benches. True arsenals of players that can fill all areas of need have become high in demand.

If you don’t think a bench player can have a real impact on a game, say hello to Aaron Boone and his home run in the 2003 ALCS. With this being said, let’s take a look at our MLB rankings of the best benches in baseball.
