Jesus Aguilar powers the Milwaukee Brewers, Jacob deGrom strikes out 13, and more in today’s Relief Roundup!
At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we will be including a daily piece into our collection each morning with all of the night’s scores at every level of the majors and minors, along with a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.
Without further adieu, let’s begin!
MLB Scores
New York Mets 3, Arizona Diamondbacks 1 in New York – Even as the Mets found out about another injury, they got an excellent pitching performance from Jacob deGrom and just enough offense to get the win.
San Diego Padres 3, Pittsburgh Pirates 2 in Pittsburgh – After the Pirates scored the first two runs of the game, the Padres put up 2 in the 4th and another run in the 6th to take the win as Eric Hosmer had a pair of doubles in the win.
Oakland Athletics 3, Toronto Blue Jays 1 in Toronto – The A’s broke up a 1-all tie in the top of the 7th inning with a pair of runs as the Athletics bullpen pitched a dynamic game after starter Brett Anderson left after the first inning.
Baltimore Orioles 7, Boston Red Sox 4 in Boston – Coming into town, the Baltimore Orioles put up 4 runs in the 4th inning to surprise the Red Sox at home.
Miami Marlins 2, Atlanta Braves 0 in Atlanta – The Marlins scored 2 in the top of the 6th inning for the only runs of the night in a very well-pitched game on both sides as the visiting Marlins took a game from the home Braves.
Chicago Cubs 8, Cincinnati Reds 1 in Cincinnati – The Cubs jumped out with 3 runs in the first inning, and Jon Lester held down the Reds to earn his 4th win on the season.
Houston Astros 4, Cleveland Indians 1 in Houston – The Astros held a 1-0 lead all the way into the 7th inning, when the Indians tied the game, but the Astros immediately took back the lead to support Charlie Morton.
Milwaukee Brewers 8, Minnesota Twins 3 in Minnesota – The Brewers jumped all over Twins starter Kyle Gibson, with 5 runs by the 4th inning and held on for the road win over the Twins.
Texas Rangers 12, Chicago White Sox 5 in Chicago – The Rangers offense exploded over White Sox starter Carson Fullmer, using 5 walks to pair with 10 hits to score a dozen runs on the night.
Kansas City Royals 5, New York Yankees 2 in Kansas City – The Royals were up 4-2 before the Yankees even got on the board as Jake Junis threw a spectacular game against the Yankees.
St. Louis Cardinals 12, Philadelphia Phillies 4 in St. Louis – Michael Wacha picked up his fifth win on the season, and the Cardinals offense had one of their best performances of the season on Friday as they defeated the visiting Phillies handily.
Tampa Bay Rays 8, Los Angeles Angels 3 in Los Angeles – The Rays offense again jumped out on the Angels pitching, and a Rays starter shut down the Angels solid offense as the Rays took a second game in a row in Los Angeles.
Seattle Mariners 5, Detroit Tigers 4 in Seattle – The Mariners scored just one inning, but it was enough, as they put up 5 runs in the 7th inning, spoiling an excellent start for Michael Fulmer.
Colorado Rockies @ San Francisco Giants in San Francisco – The Giants got a run in the first inning off Rockies starter Kyle Freeland, but that is all he would allow, and the Rockies would strike for 3 in the 4th inning and add more as the game went on to take the road win.
Los Angeles Dodgers @ Washington Nationals in Washington, PPD
Standouts
After being swept by the Twins last season, the Milwaukee Brewers intended to get back a game or two in their series in Minnesota this weekend, and they started off well on Friday with an offensive explosion. Jesus Aguilar led the attack, going 3-4 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI, powering out a pair of home runs and even taking a walk.
The Mets got a great return performance from Jacob deGrom on Friday as deGrom tossed 7 innings, allowing a run on 6 hits and no walks, striking out 13.
