It is time to start preparing for the MLB draft! We kick off our mock drafts with our fourth go-round today!

The MLB Draft will be held June 4th through the 6th. It can be viewed on MLB Network and online on MLB.com. However, pre-draft, one of the most exciting parts of preparing for the draft is putting together mock drafts of just how things could break down.

Our mock MLB draft work is done by Benjamin Chase, one of our editors here with Call To The Pen. Ben works with contacts around the game to attempt to find out if there are teams and players getting connected together or players rising that could surprise us by going earlier or later than selected. We will have a new mock MLB draft each Monday all the way until June 4, with each mock being through the CBA selections between the first and second round until that last mock, when Ben drinks some extra coffee and goes all the way through the second batch of competitive balance picks between rounds 2 and 3 on draft day.

Mock Draft, Version 1.0
Mock Draft, Version 2.0
Mock Draft, Version 3.0

We’ll start right at the top:

1. Detroit Tigers

1. player. 63. There have been some whispers about Mize not being the lock-down pick here, but that is really the Tigers doing their due diligence at this point to ensure that they aren’t going to get a significant discount in signing bonus with a guy that’s just below Mize on their board. He’s still their guy, and it’s going to take something catastrophic to change that.. RHP. Auburn. Casey Mize

2. San Francisco Giants

Georgia Tech. Joey Bart. 2. player. 31. The Giants are getting a lot more locked into Bart in this position just as Bart has been locked in on any unlucky college hurler tossing a ball his way this spring. Already a premium defender who should move quickly with those skills, if Bart’s bat abilities are real, he could easily be the first guy from this class to reach the majors.. C

3. Philadelphia Phillies

player. 6. Just as the first two picks, while there are some other names being floated around for financial purposes, Bohm seems to be the locked-in choice for the Phillies right now. There have been more Phillies eyes lately on South Alabama outfielder Travis Swaggerty, so he could factor in here, but Bohm is still the guy right now with just a couple of weeks to go.. 3B. Wichita State. Alec Bohm. 3

4. Chicago White Sox

5. Cincinnati Reds

RHP. Florida. Brady Singer. 5. player. 61. The Reds have Bart and Bohm higher on their board, but it’s becoming less and less likely that either makes it this far, and the Reds are big fans of Singer’s projectable talent, and he should be a lock to be a major league pitcher – whether that ends up in the bullpen or rotation is something many are still split on, but he’s got major league stuff for sure.

6. New York Mets

3B. Florida. Jonathan India. 6. player. 3. If there were draft pick trading, the Mets would be offering Detroit anything and everything to get ahead of the Giants and draft Bart, but they’ll end up likely seeing a choice between Swaggerty, India, and college arms in this spot, unless they’re willing to dip into the high school market, which it has appeared they’re wanting to avoid here.

7. San Diego Padres

Carter Stewart. 7. player. 127. With a deep, talented high school arm class, the Padres could really take their pick of their favorite combination of talent and signing bonus here. Stewart is a guy that could factor into decisions at #2 on down depending on his bonus number, but he shouldn’t make it beyond #10-11.. RHP. Eau Gallie HS (FL)

8. Atlanta Braves

8. player. 17. The Braves have checked in on a collection of bats, and they seem strongest on a trio of them – Kelenic, Gorman, and Swaggerty. With all three on the board here, it’d likely come down to a combination of feel for future value and signing bonus.. OF. Waukesha West HS (WI). Jarred Kelenic

9. Oakland Athletics

OF. South Alabama. Travis Swaggerty. 9. player. 96. The A’s would love to see someone like Bohm or India fall into their lap, but in this spot, most likely they’ll be deciding between Swaggerty and McClanahan among college players or a high school arm. With the depth of available high school arms in the draft, they could really maximize their value by waiting on who drops to the 2nd round and grabbing Swaggerty here.

10. Pittsburgh Pirates

player. 4. Arguably the most complete high school arm in the draft, Liberatore has drawn rave reviews since last summer, but he just may end up going here due to a preference for the collegiate player in other slots. If he fell here, the Pirates would be quite excited for that.. LHP. Mountain Ridge HS (AZ). Matthew Liberatore. 10

11. Baltimore Orioles

11. player. 11. Winn has the most balanced repertoire of any high schooler in the draft, with a chance to see all of it tick up a touch and be the type of pitcher that works with 3-4 fringe-plus pitches. The Orioles have been heavy on the college bat and high school arm market, and this would give them one of the top 3 arms available in this spot.. RHP. Orange Lutheran HS (CA). Cole Winn

12. Toronto Blue Jays

13. Miami Marlins

3B. American Heritage School (FL). Triston Casas. 13. player. 82. The Marlins have been getting high school arm after high school arm and seeing them head under the knife. In a draft with such a deep group of high school arms that the Marlins could grab one or more down in the draft, going for the best bat available seems the move here, and Casas is local with a big power bat that would play well on many fronts for the Marlins.

14. Seattle Mariners

OF. Oregon State. Trevor Larnach. 14. player. 62. The Mariners seem locked into a college player here, which could mean they’re passing on some incredible talent on the high school side, and they’re putting out a lot of “vibes” that it will be a college bat as we get closer. At this point, Larnach makes the most sense, though the Mariners could go off the board, as they’ve done that recently.

15. Texas Rangers

Sandra Day O'Connor HS (AZ). Nolan Gorman. 15. player. 95. With this spot in the draft, the Rangers can really sit back and see what uber-talented bat or arm that was widely thought to go in the top 5-10 picks somehow falls to them. In this exercise, it’s Gorman, whose power is tremendous, but his defensive position could end up being more rigid at first base without work on conditioning.. 3B

16. Tampa Bay Rays

21. Scott has become one of the first round’s most volatile players. Likely in real discussion as high as the top 10, he could end up falling back into the comp picks as well based on what he’s asking for a signing bonus. Regardless, he has a tremendous amount of natural ability that should plug well into any org that grabs him, and with the Rays multiple picks, they can lock in his talent here.. OF. Plant HS (FL). Connor Scott. 16. player

17. Los Angeles Angels

102. The Angels seem hard after an arm, and they’ve been visiting plenty of HS arms, so they could go off board and grab one of the plethora of talented high school arms available. However, the Angels have been typically after college players in the first round in their current administration, and there are plenty of talented college arms available. Kowar may not have frontline upside, but he should move quickly and slot into the middle of a rotation in a hurry.. RHP. Florida. Jackson Kowar. 17. player

18. Kansas City Royals

7. One of the names to track late in the process will be Groshans, who has really ticked up boards as teams get spring reports in from their field guys who had a chance to really get to know the player more than just report on on-field play. Groshans has graded through the roof in those reports, from all reports.. 3B. Magnolia HS (TX). Jordan Groshans. 18. player

19. St. Louis Cardinals

32. The Cardinals tend to hit two markets hard early – college arms and high school athletic bats. This would be an ideal spot to really attack the former with a guy like Rolison on the board, among others. Of course, not many of the high school guys have gone off the board either, so it could be a spot where the Cardinals go with an underslot HS guy, akin to what they did when they drafted <strong><a rel=. LHP. Mississippi. Ryan Rolison. 19. player

20. Minnesota Twins

Grayson Rodriguez. 20. player. 2. Rodriguez flew up boards this spring, but has pretty much held his spot in the 5-10 range among the high school arms since that initial rush this spring. He’s an electric arm that should add another premium velocity arm into the Twins system, something they have been valuing more in the last few seasons in their drafting.. RHP. Central Heights HS (TX)

21. Milwaukee Brewers

LHP. Loretto HS (TN). Ryan Weathers. 21. player. 76. The Brewers are really in a rough spot for their preferences this season. Most likely the top college bats will be gone, the HS bats that are still on the board will have some signability concerns, and top college arms will have been thinned some already as well. It could be an ideal spot to grab a HS arm, though there are enough upside bats to still make that a real possibility here. Weathers would be one of the HS arms that offered the Brewers a decent amount of floor while also providing some significant upside.

22. Colorado Rockies

108. If he’s still on the board, this is turning into one of those matches that has been discussed so much that it’s hard to see it not happening on draft day. The switch-pitching, switch-hitting Seigler has really shown well this spring, and he fits a mold in the Rockies system of athletic catchers that can play other positions as well.. C. Cartersville HS (GA). Anthony Seigler. 22. player

23. New York Yankees

23. player. 43. The Yankees will certainly pick off the biggest upside that they can get to agree to terms. Many believe they will be looking hard at Stanford righty Tristan Beck here, but he’s been a guy that some see lasting until the second round, so they could gamble on that and grab Adams, arguably the most athletic player in the draft.. OF. Green Hope HS (NC). Jordyn Adams

24. Chicago Cubs

RHP. Stetson. Logan Gilbert. 24. player. 9. Gilbert flashed big velocity last summer, but he dropped down a lot of boards when he returned this spring with more “above-average” velocity in the low-90s. He’s seen his velocity tick up as the weather has warmed up again, and he could be a factor higher than this, but his pitch mix and top-end stuff would make him a solid pick for the Cubs here.

25. Arizona Diamondbacks

OF. Oklahoma. Steele Walker. 25. player. 8. The Diamondbacks are losing <strong><a rel=

26. Boston Red Sox

27. Washington Nationals

RHP. Heritage HS (GA). Cole Wilcox. 27. player. 90. Wilcox is a fairly volatile Georgia arm, and it’s definitely possible the Nationals choose to go for one of the other big Georgia arms here, but Wilcox is rumored to have a price tag that could be more palatable to a team selecting in this area of the draft.

28. Houston Astros

Roncalli HS (IN). Nick Schnell. 28. player. 135. The Astros are looking for quality, upside bats that fit a particular sabermetric approach. There are a few on the board here, but the biggest upside is definitely Schnell, who has been jumping up boards all spring and could go as early as the early teens.. OF

29. Cleveland Indians

30. Los Angeles Dodgers

Santiago HS (CA). Brice Turang. 30. player. 71. Turang was considered the top high school bat in the draft entering last summer, but after really not pushing up his position over summer showcases or spring (though he really did nothing to hurt himself either). With a fairly high number (per reports) to sign, Turang might stumble a bit in the draft, but the Dodgers have never shied away from talent, and this would be a great chance to grab talent at the 30th pick.. SS

Compensatory selections, first round

31. Tampa Bay Rays

C. St. Joan of Arc Catholic SS (Canada). Noah Naylor. 31. player. 21. Naylor could be in play as early as the Orioles at #11, and some have even reported the Braves having interest at #8 overall. He has a ton of natural talent with the swing, but most teams want him out from behind the plate, and it’s whether he’ll accept that move and where he’ll want to move that could determine where he gets selected, but once into the comp rounds, teams with multiple picks will have no problem taking the shot on his bat, no matter where it ends up playing.

32. Tampa Bay Rays

Stanford. Kris Bubic. 32. player. 21. Taking two fairly expensive HS bats will likely lead the Rays in this spot to consider a few different arm options. It could end up being between two Stanford pitchers, Bubic and teammate Tristan Beck, who will definitely be in play starting around this spot for many teams. Bubic is no slouch, though his long arm path in his delivery concerns some teams about his long-term health of his arm.. LHP

33. Kansas City Royals

Forsyth Central HS (GA). Ethan Hankins. 33. player. 7. Likely going for Gorshans that will cost less than slot at 18 will give the Royals the chance to really play with their final three picks. Hankins has shown very well to finish his season, and reports are his medicals are clean. It’s just where his price tag will be, and most believe that to be high, that will determine where he goes in the draft. The Royals could be the team with the best ability to swing money his direction.. RHP

34. Kansas City Royals

Jameson Hannah. 34. player. 7. Making a play for Hankins likely will keep the budget for the final two picks underslot, but Hannah would be a great get that likely could go underslot, and though he needs a bit of development time, the ceiling with Hannah is immense.. OF. Dallas Baptist

35. Cleveland Indians

Competitive Balance Selections, Round A

36. Pittsburgh Pirates

Matt McLain. 36. player. 4. McLain has shot up boards all spring with impressive play in the field and steady hitting at the plate. He has some concern about his ability to stick at short, but he’s definitely an up-the-middle infielder, and with shifting in the modern game, his instincts should let him stay at short in the right organization.. SS/2B. Arnold O. Beckman HS (CA)

37. Baltimore Orioles

11. Conine was knocked down heavily for struggles to open the season, but he was the best hitter in the Cape last summer, and he’s been absolutely crushing the baseball to close the season, seemingly unnoticed by many rankers. Teams have noticed, and from a few I’ve talked with, he’ll factor in heavily in the back half of the first round with the Orioles being overjoyed if he was still on the board here.. OF. Duke. Griffin Conine. 37. player

38. San Diego Padres

SS. St. Luke's Episcopal School (AL). Jeremiah Jackson. 38. player. 127. The Padres will stick with upside here with Jackson, who has jumped up boards this spring with an incredible display of athleticism throughout the spring, with some comparing him favorably to last year’s #1 overall selection <strong><a rel=

39. Arizona Diamondbacks

Mike Vasil. 39. player. 8. Vasil is a high-upside pitcher that likely will require some decent money to sign, and the Diamondbacks made that possible with a college bat pick with their first selection. Vasil hasn’t had a ton of exposure still in his spring season due to being a northern arm and some injury issues, but reports when he’s been on the mound have been extremely positive.. RHP. Boston College HS (MA)

40. Kansas City Royals

7. The Royals will be managing their budget here, and they’ll be working with a host of college arms here. Depending on who they like the most, it could be a host of guys. Hjelle has been getting a lot of love in the back half of the first round and should certainly be off the board before the middle of the second round, so he was who I chose to highlight in this spot, but the Royals could go plenty of directions as far college arms.. RHP. Kentucky. Sean Hjelle. 40. player

41. Cleveland Indians

42. Colorado Rockies

Another name tied strongly to the Rockies, and if they came out of the first round with both Seigler and Ginn, they’d need to go underslot for a few picks, but to get two guys they’ve been heavy on all spring, they’d be willing to do that most likely.. RHP. Brandon HS (MS). J.T. Ginn. 42. player. 108

43. St. Louis Cardinals

32. Siani is a name that keeps popping up in discussion starting at about the 15th selection as more and more teams get good reports and good eyes on him. Siani fits the Cardinals profile of athletic outfielders, and they would be a good fit for him if he lasts this long.. OF. William Penn Carter (PA). Mike Siani. 43. player
