Juan Soto hits a home run for the Washington Nationals in his first start, St. Louis’ Miles Mikolas dominates the Royals, and more in today’s Relief Roundup!

At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we will be including a daily piece into our collection each morning with all of the night’s scores at every level of the majors and minors, along with a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.

Without further adieu, let’s begin!

MLB Scores

Washington Nationals 10, San Diego Padres 2 in Washington – Juan Soto’s first major league hit was a home run and Gio Gonzalez pitched a gem to lead the Nationals to a home win.

Philadelphia Phillies 3, Atlanta Braves 0 in Philadelphia – Nick Pivetta and Mike Foltynewicz squared off for the fourth time already this season and had an excellent pitching matchup with Foltynewicz leaving the game after 6 innings with the score 1-0.

New York Mets 2, Miami Marlins 0 in New York – Jason Vargas and five relievers absolutely shut down the Marlins on Monday to secure the home win.

Milwaukee Brewers 4, Arizona Diamondbacks 2 in Milwaukee – The Brewers countered a Diamondbacks first inning run with 2 of their own in the bottom of the inning as the Brewers hit 3 home runs to support Chase Anderson.

New York Yankees 10, Texas Rangers 5 in Texas – The Yankees scored in 5 innings, including opening the scoring in the game with a 3-run 2nd inning as the two teams combined for 8 home runs.

Baltimore Orioles 3, Chicago White Sox 2 in Chicago – The Orioles and White Sox did all of their scoring in 1-run-per-inning increments. Manny Machado hit his 15th home run as part of the Orioles win.

Minnesota Twins 4, Detroit Tigers 2 in Minnesota – The Twins welcomed back former manager Ron Gardenhire for the first time as the Tigers manager, winning behind young fireballer Jose Berrios, who struck out 9 over 8 innings.

St. Louis Cardinals 6, Kansas City Royals 0 in St. Louis – Miles Mikolas tossed a complete-game shutout for the Cardinals as they got home runs from Tyler O’Neill and Matt Carpenter in the battle of Missouri.

Colorado Rockies 2, Los Angeles Dodgers 1 in Los Angeles – Young hurlers German Marquez and Walker Buehler battled for 7 innings before the Dodgers defense let the bullpen down, allowing an unearned run to lose the game.

Monday Standouts

While Juan Soto’s big moment was the memorable highlight of Washington’s Monday win, the big bat was a guy originally signed to a minor league deal. Mark Reynolds came up for the Washington Nationals when Ryan Zimmerman was injured, and on Monday, he went 3-5 with a pair of solo home runs, scoring 3 runs in all.

A free agent signing this offseason after pitching for the last few seasons in Asia, Miles Mikolas has been brilliant for the Cardinals this season. On Monday, he threw a complete-game shutout, allowing 4 hits and a walk, striking out 9.
