Philadelphia Phillies 4, Atlanta Braves 0 in Philadelphia – The Phillies were able to put up a run in 4 separate innings to defeat the Braves and take the mid-week series from the Braves to pull within a half-game of the Braves for first place behind Jake Arrieta.
Cleveland Indians 1 Chicago Cubs 0 in Chicago – After a Wednesday blowout, the Cubs and Indians had an impressive pitcher’s duel between Adam Plutko and Jon Lester.
San Diego Padres 3, Washington Nationals 1 in Washington – Tyson Ross had a dominant game and the Padres eventually were able to get after Nationals rookie Erick Fedde, and once they got to him, they tallied 3 runs in the 5th and 6th innings total.
Los Angeles Angels 5, Toronto Blue Jays 4 in Toronto – After trailing for the majority of the game, the Angels exploded for 4 runs in the 9th inning to pull out the road win as the Angels stole 3 bases in the game.
Boston Red Sox 4, Tampa Bay Rays 1 in Tampa Bay – David Price had a great start as he matched up with Chris Archer before the Red Sox were able to break through against the Rays bullpen to bring home the win as the Red Sox bullpen pitched 3 perfect innings.
Miami Marlins 2, New York Mets 1 in New York – The Marlins were down the entire game before putting up a pair of runs on closer Jeurys Familia in the 9th inning to win.
Pittsburgh Pirates 5, Cincinnati Reds 4, 12 innings in Cincinnati – The Pirates scored first, but the Reds were able to score 3 in the bottom of the 8th to send the game into extra innings. Josh Harrison drove in the game-winning run with a triple in the 12th.
Milwaukee Brewers 9, Arizona Diamondbacks 2 in Mil2waukee – With their 31st win in their 50th game with Wednesday’s win, the Brewers set a team mark for the best record in their team’s history over the first 50 games of a season by scoring 7 runs in the 4th inning and putting the game out of reach.
Texas Rangers 12, New York Yankees 10 in Texas – The Rangers’ bats went nuts over the middle innings, scoring 11 runs in the 4th-6th innings off of CC Sabathia to gain a home win over the Yankees.
Chicago White Sox 11, Baltimore Orioles 1 in Chicago – The White Sox scored throughout the middle innings, putting up 9 runs across the 3rd-5th innings as they hit 3 home runs.
Detroit Tigers 4, Minnesota Twins 1 in Minnesota – Both teams picked up a run in the first inning, but the Tigers stayed after it, with Niko Goodrum pounding out a 2-run home run to take the lead for the Tigers.
Houston Astros 4, San Francisco Giants 1 in Houston – Justin Verlander was dominant, and Jeff Samardzija continued to struggle with run support and one “blow up” each game so far as the Astros pulled out a home win Wednesday.
Kansas City Royals 5, St. Louis Cardinals 2, 10 innings in St. Louis – After tying the game in the 6th inning, the Royals exploded in the top of the 10th inning for the series win over the Cardinals.
Seattle Mariners 1, Oakland Athletics 0 in Oakland – A tremendous pitcher’s duel ended with the Mariners on top on the road behind the pitching of Marco Gonzales and Edwin Diaz struck out the side to close out the game.
Los Angeles Dodgers 3, Colorado Rockies 0in Los Angeles – Kenta Maeda continued his dominant streak recently, and Kenley Jansen continued his dominant streak as well as the Dodgers took a second straight win against the Rockies as they struggle to get back to competitiveness.
Wednesday Standouts
The Chicago White Sox put together a big offensive day on Wednesday, and Adam Engel was at the center of it, going 4-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 runs driven in, smacking a home run, and stealing a base.
The Dodgers have seen Kenta Maeda absolutely dominate his last couple starts. On Wednesday, he struck out 12 Rockies over 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and 4 walks.
