Chicago White Sox: Carlos Rodon makes an odd assist in rehab start
Chicago White Sox lefty Carlos Rodon made an impressive assist during a rehab outing on Thursday night
The Chicago White Sox are mired in a rebuilding season and aren’t in any rush to hurry back prized lefty starter Carlos Rodon, so when a ball hit off his head on Thursday night, many Pale Hose fans had to be concerned, but it turned into one of the more impressive assists you’ll see!
Carlos Rodon had offseason shoulder surgery, and he’s been working his way back, finally making his first rehab start on May 19th for low-A Kannapolis, where he tossed 5 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits and no walks, striking out 6. Thursday, he was bumped up to AAA Charlotte to make his second rehab start, with a possible return to the Chicago White Sox rotation soon to follow.
Pitching against Norfolk, Rodon got through the first inning with 2 strikeouts, allowing just one hit. His second inning was even better as he struck out the side in order. He opened the third with a strikeout before D’Arby Myers stepped up to the plate:

If you need to watch that again, I can understand. It’s pretty incredible to see that ball ricochet off Rodon’s head and the third baseman, Jake Elmore, react quickly and make the grab to record the second out of the inning.
While Carlos Rodon protested, Charlotte Knights coaches chose to remove Rodon as a precaution. Rodon was able to walk off the field under his own power and was seen in the dugout later in the game, giving the appearance that he was okay after the hit.
Because he didn’t get quite to the innings the Chicago White Sox would have liked, Carlos Rodon will most likely have one more rehab start with Charlotte before the White Sox will need to make a decision.
Next: White Sox Mount Rushmore
With another difficult start from Lucas Giolito Thursday night, the Chicago White Sox will likely have a rotation spot wide open for Carlos Rodon as soon as he’s ready to go.
