San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford remains hot, Mike Trout continue his historic pace and more in today’s Relief Roundup
At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we will be including a daily piece into our collection with all of the night’s scores in the major leagues, the top performers in the minors, the minor league schedules, and a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.
Without further adieu, let’s begin!
MLB Scores
Boston Red Sox 8, Atlanta Braves 6 in Atlanta – The Braves jumped out on Red Sox starter Drew Pomeranz, but the Red Sox battled back on the Atlanta bullpen, and despite an incredibly impressive home run by Ronald Acuna, Jr. off of closer Craig Kimbrell, the Red Sox held on for the win.
Oakland Athletics 3, Arizona Diamondbacks 0 in Oakland – The A’s powered out three solo home runs on Diamondbacks starter Clay Buchholz in an otherwise solid start, but the story in Oakland was definitely starter Daniel Mengden who threw a complete game shutout, only allowing 2 baserunners.
Texas Rangers 4, Kansas City Royals 3, 10 innings in Texas – Bartolo Colon pitched well enough to win, going 7 strong innings, but the Rangers couldn’t push across the winning run while he was on the mound, walking off with the win on a Shin-Soo Choo home run that was historic in its own right as it moved Choo into first place among players of Asian descent in home runs in MLB history.
Philadelphia Phillies 2, Toronto Blue Jays 1 in Philadelphia – Aaron Nola took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, but the Jays then tied the game, making Nola no longer a factor in the decision. Nick Williams hit a pinch-hit home run to give the Phillies the win.
St. Louis Cardinals 4, Pittsburgh Pirates 1 in Pittsburgh – Jack Flaherty built on his 13-K strikeout performance last outing with another strong one, though not anywhere near as dominant, and the Cardinals put together 11 hits to get the road win.
Tampa Bay Rays 5, Baltimore Orioles 1 in Tampa Bay – The Rays got a very strong debut “start” from Anthony Banda and beat up on Orioles starter Andrew Cashner to cash in on the home win.
Chicago White Sox 8, Detroit Tigers 4 in Detroit – The White Sox powered out 4 home runs, including a pair from Tim Anderson and four hits from Jose Abreu as they powered past the Tigers in Detroit.
Milwaukee Brewers 17, New York Mets 6 in Milwaukee – The Brewers offense hit Mets starter Jason Vargas, but they went to town on the bullpen, scoring 12 of their runs on the bullpen.
Washington Nationals 4, Miami Marlins 1 in Miami – The Nationals couldn’t do anything with Wei-Yin Chen until the 8th inning, but they were able to put up 4 runs from the 8th inning on to take the win.
Cleveland Indians 8, Houston Astros 6 in Cleveland – The Indians put up a 4-spot in the 4th inning and then held on as the teams exchanged runs along the way. The teams combined for 6 home runs on the game.
Los Angeles Angels 11, New York Yankees 4 in New York – The Yankees came out strong, scoring 4 runs over the first two innings, but then the Angels scored the rest of the runs in the game as Mike Trout went 5-5 and hit his major league-leading 17th home run.
San Francisco Giants 5, Chicago Cubs 4 in Chicago – San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford stayed hot with a double, home run, and a pair of RBI, reaching base 3 times on the day as Giants starter Chris Stratton fought through 5 innings to keep the Giants in the game.
Cincinnati Reds 6, Colorado Rockies 5 in Colorado – The Reds battled back and forth until the Reds put up a 3-spot in the 7th inning to take the lead for good. Scooter Gennett picked up 5 hits in the game for the Reds.
Seattle Mariners 4, Minnesota Twins 3, 12 innings in Seattle – The Twins traveled to Seattle and fought back after the Mariners scored 3 in the 6th inning to tie the game and send it to extras where Mike Zunino hit a walk-off home run to win the game.
San Diego Padres 7, Los Angeles Dodgers 6 in Los Angeles – The Dodgers scored first, but the Padres stayed after it all game, efficiently scoring 7 runs on their 10 hits, pounding out four home runs.
