New York Mets: Citi Field site of small fire
On the list of what else could go wrong for the New York Mets, we can now add a fire at Citi Field.
It has been a rough few days for the New York Mets. Staff ace Noah Syndergaard was placed on the disabled list with a strained index finger on Tuesday. Just a few hours later, Steven Matz left his outing against the Atlanta Braves early, feeling discomfort in his left middle finger. The bullpen turned what had been a 4-0 advantage when Matz left into a 7-6 loss, the Mets seventh in their last ten games.
Just when things did not seem to get much worse, there was an incident today at Citi Field. Earlier today, there were reports of a loud blast, and then a fire started at the stadium. Thankfully, the fire was put out within 15 minutes, but it was a frightening moment nonetheless.

As of this point, according to the New York City Fire Department, the fire began in a display case, causing the initial blast. However, there is no word yet as to what caused the fire to begin in the first place. Also, it appears as though there were not any injuries, as the fire was quickly contained and no one was hit with any potential flying glass.
This incident also will not cause any issues with the Mets game tonight, as they are playing in Atlanta. However, at the conclusion of tonight’s contest, the Mets return home for a nine game homestand, with the Cubs coming to town for a four game series. However, that area of the ballpark may be off limits for some time, depending on the severity of the damage, any investigations, and the length of the repairs needed.
The New York Mets have seen quite a bit go wrong during the month of May. Now, their month has come to an end with a literal fire at Citi Field.
