The NCAA Baseball tournament down to the Super Regionals and final 16 teams. Who has the best chance of heading to the College World Series in Omaha?

The 2018 NCAA Baseball tournament has been a wild ride so far, with upsets galore busting the brackets of many NCAA Baseball fans — yes they have bracket challenges for the College World Series event.

Even though a record 10 SEC schools made the round of 64, an NCAA Baseball tournament record, only six of them remain. After the Super Regionals round of 16, just three will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, with all six teams paired up with one another in their respective Super Regionals.

Before you SEC faithful get your panties in a wad, it’s not a conspiracy to eliminate all of your qualified teams. In fact, when so many teams make the NCAA Baseball tournament, it’s bound to happen. If all of the PAC-12 schools had advanced, all four schools would have matched up with one another.

Auburn earns it’s first Super Regionals appearance in 19 seasons, while Tennesee Tech, Duke, and Stetson make the Super Regionals for the first time in program history.

If you’re late to the party or in case you need a refresher, he’s how the NCAA Baseball tournament format works. Also, for a team by team breakdown, check out our full-preview, then rejoin us here when you are done!

NCAA Baseball Regional Round (64 teams)

  • 64 teams –16 Regional sites
  • Seeded 1-4 (16 one seeds, 16 two seeds, etc.)
  • Regional Round: Double elimination
  • Hosted by the one seed.

NCAA Super Regional Round (16 teams)

  • Winners of the Regionals are paired up in a best of three series. The highest seed of the two host. If two one-seeds advance, the team with the National seed designations hosts.

College World Series (Eight Teams) Location: Omaha, Nebraska — TD Ameritrade Park.  (neutral site)

  • The eight winners of their respective Super Regionals are paired up based upon the initial bracket
  • There are two sides of the bracket — set up much like the Regional Round
  • It’s similar to the format of the Regionals with four teams in each side of the bracket.
  • Double elimination format
  • The winner of each four-team bracket then advances to the finals.
  • The Championship Game is a best two out of three series.

Here’s how the Regional games played out if you were otherwise occupied last weekend.

NCAA Baseball Super Regionals matchups

The NCAA baseball Super Regionals are determined by the highest remaining seed that advanced on that particular side of the bracket. If there are two one seeds, the highest ranked team hosts the Super Regional.

If two teams with the same ranking advance (2, 3 or 4 seeds) then it’s determined by factors such as revenue and the best facilities of the two NCAA Baseball teams.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are my favorite to win it all and dog pile in Omaha for their first NCAA Baseball College World Series title.

Oregon State poses the most significant threat to the Arkansas Razorbacks, and a team with enough firepower and pitching to win the College World Series.

The sleeper team is the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, who can really hit the ball, leading NCAA Baseball in most offensive categories — including team batting average and home runs. I saw them live in Oxford last week and they are no joke.

Their pitching is what was a surprise, which stepped up, quieting the bats of Ole Miss and Missouri State when needed the most. The Texas Longhorns will have their hands full, that’s for sure!
