New York Yankees’ rookie Gleyber Torres has gotten most of the attention from the media and fans alike. He’s not the only rookie making headlines, though. Fellow top prospect Miguel Andujar has proved his worth and has the look of a star for years to come.
New York Yankees rookie Miguel Andujar stepped up to the plate against New York Mets’ lefty Steven Matz with (probably) one thing running through his mind; “Move this runner over.”
He definitely did that, but he didn’t just move him over. He belted a two-run bomb off him, one that tied the game up at 3-3.
The Yankees would go on to win the game, thanks to an Aaron Judge home run no less, by a score of 4-3.

It wasn’t the first time the 23-year-old made some magic happen. In fact, it was one of the many exclamation marks he’s left on the still-young season.
Don’t forget about his dramatic walk-off single just a few weeks ago.
We all know about his teammate, Gleyber Torres, who might end up as the American League’s Rookie of the Year.
But, Andujar is continually proving why he’s been considered a top prospect for so long.
There’s his stat line, which, as of this writing looks like this; .305/.550/.885, 8 HR, 28 RBI, 1.0 WAR.
Forget good rookie numbers; those are flat out great numbers for any regular starter. Among Major League third baseman, here’s where he ranks.
- .305 AVG (4th)
- 8 HR (Tied-14th)
- .885 OPS (6th)
- 21 Doubles (2nd)
Needless to say, Andujar has far exceeded the expectations. Will he continue to produce at such a remarkable rate? Maybe not. But, let’s look at who we’re talking about. The kid has played so well that Brandon Drury, a (very) capable MLB starter, is in Triple-A.
Yes, the guy that GM Brian Cashman gave up two solid prospects for, is in Triple-A. It’s also a testament to just how deep the Yankees’ organization is.
But, for the most part, it’s a result of Andujar’s emergence as a legitimate threat in manager Aaron Boone‘s lineup.
In recent days, trade proposals have floated from Twitter GM’s and professional sources alike. One of them, from Joel Sherman of the New York Post, reported that the Mets’ would want both Torres and Andujar in a deal for starter Jacob DeGrom.
DeGrom is in the midst of a remarkable year. The Yankees’ do need another starter. But, you know something else? Andujar is in the midst of a pretty amazing rookie campaign himself.

His production and age (just 23), have given him the look of something the Yankees’ sure could use for the long haul.
