New York Mets Tim Tebow picking up steam at AA
New York Mets minor leaguer Tim Tebow has been on fire this month, picking up steam with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
It has been easy to dismiss New York Mets minor leaguer Tim Tebow as a side show. After all, Tebow was 29 years old when he first set foot on a minor league diamond, having not played in over a decade. While he did show some potential power, there was hardly anything to show that he would be more than minor league filler, an experiment that would bring fans to the ballpark to witness the spectacle.
But somehow, along the way, we forgot to let Tebow in on the joke. Not only has he immediately made his presence felt by homering in his first at bat at every level, but he has improved as he climbs up the Mets organizational ladder. Those improvements have continued this month, where Tebow has had an impressive performance through June 23rd.

With this performance, Tebow has seen his overall production at AA improve as well. He now sports a .256/.336/.400 batting line, with five homers and 11 doubles over his 220 plate appearances. There are still holes in his swing, as evidenced by his 80 strikeouts and tendency to just swing as hard as he can, but there has been some dramatic improvement as well.
As the Mets stated that they would be aggressive with Tebow, looking to accelerate his journey through the minors due to his age, it may not be much longer before he earns another promotion. With his performance during June, it would be easy to justify bringing him to the AAA level. If he continues to perform reasonably well, it may not be a surprise to see Tebow at the major league level this year.
The Mets are certainly looking for a spark, and for something that can excite the fanbase. Tebow would certainly provide the latter, giving fans a reason to make that trek to Citi Field. And if he proves that he can be a viable player at the major league level, then the experiment has become even more of a success.
