New York Mets: Jacob deGrom is fed up with losing

The New York Mets just had their third worst month in franchise history and staff ace Jacob deGrom has had enough.

11-1 seems like a long time ago for the 2018 New York Mets. Injuries have mounted and players have struggled. They find themselves in the cellar of the NL East and the National League as a whole with just 32 wins. It’s also the fourth fewest in Major League Baseball.

The Mets had ace Jacob deGrom on the mound yesterday in their latest loss vs the Marlins. After being staked to a 2-0 lead, deGrom would give up a tying two-run homer to Brian Anderson. Later on in the same frame, Wilmer Flores would misplay a ball at first which would give the Marlins a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

The 30 year old deGrom is 5-4 but with a 1.84 ERA. He hasn’t given up more than three earned runs in a start since April 10.

The New York Mets are in a tricky spot with deGrom. They don’t really have a General Manager. They have a ton of veterans on the club they may not be able to get anything for. Outside of Brandon Nimmo, their younger players haven’t produced.

deGrom is the piece that they can get a ton for and basically reset the franchise into another rebuild.  Every team that thinks they are a contender would go after him as he can be that game changing arm that can take a club to the next level, especially in the postseason.

I don’t blame deGrom for being tired of losing. He should have 11 wins right now, but he only has five on a team that’s now the worst in the entire league.

The New York Mets are at a franchise crossroads and what they do over the next month will impact how the franchise operates for the next five years. What they do with deGrom will have a lot of say in that.
