Boston Red Sox 3, Washington Nationals 0 in WashingtonEduardo Rodriguez won his 10th game as the Boston Red Sox finished off a sweep of the Nationals in shutout style.

New York Yankees 6, Atlanta Braves 2 in New York – For the second straight day, the Yankees beat up on the Braves starter, this time Julio Teheran. Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge hit their 21st and 24th home runs, respectively.

Miami Marlins 3, Tampa Bay Rays 0 in Miami – The Marlins pulled off the shutout win on Wednesday as they were able to follow starter Jose Urena‘s strong effort with excellent relief work.

Chicago Cubs 5, Detroit Tigers 2 in Chicago – Though he got hit in the first inning, Jose Quintana gave the Cubs 6 strong innings, and the Cubs got Dave Bote’s first career home run along with a homer from catcher Willson Contreras.

Philadelphia Phillies 4, Baltimore Orioles 1 in PhiladelphiaAaron Nola was tremendous on the mound, and Nick Williams knocked out his 10th bomb of the season as the Phillies took down the Orioles.

Oakland Athletics 4, San Diego Padres 2 in OaklandStephen Piscotty knocked out 3 doubles and drove in 3 runs to lead the Athletics to a win on Wednesday afternoon.

Los Angeles Angels 7, Seattle Mariners 4 in SeattleGarrett Richards struck out 8 in 5 1/3 innings in his return to the rotation from the DL, and the Angels were able to back him with a home run from struggling Kole Calhoun.

Milwaukee Brewers 3, Minnesota Twins 2 in MilwaukeeJose Berrios threw a solid game, but the Twins simply could not support him offensively with any runs as the Brewers were able to get 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to secure the win.

Houston Astros 5, Texas Rangers 4 in Texas, 10 inningsEvan Gattis drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning as the Astros took the win on the road after both clubs hit the opposition’s starter well.

New York Mets 6, Toronto Blue Jays 3 in Toronto – The Mets offense jumped all over Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman with 6 runs off of him, including a home run from Todd Frazier to earn the road victory.

Cincinnati Reds 7, Chicago White Sox 4 in Cincinnati – The Reds picked up less hits than the White Sox and only got one extra base hit, but they used their hits well and moved runners on every hit well to beat the White Sox.

Los Angeles Dodgers 6, Pittsburgh Pirates 4 in Los Angeles – The Dodgers got timely hitting from their offense and a solid pitching performance from Rich Hill to defeat the Pirates on Wednesday night.

Colorado Rockies 1, San Francisco Giants 0 in ColoradoTyler Anderson turned the thin Colorado air into his personal pitching environment on Wednesday night as he was masterful over 8 shutout innings against the Giants, while Giants starter Andrew Suarez‘s one mistake, a home run to Chris Iannetta, turned out to be the difference in the game.

Cleveland Indians 3, Kansas City Royals 2 in Kansas City – The Indians jumped out on Royals starter Trevor Oaks and got a very good pitching performance from Trevor Bauer to defeat the Royals on the road Wednesday night.

St. Louis Cardinals 8, Arizona Diamondbacks 4 in Arizona – A 5-run 7th inning blew open what was previously a very tight pitchers’ duel in the final game of the July 4th holiday. The Cardinals pounded out 6 extra base hits over the game.

Top Pitcher

Tyler Anderson spun an impressive game on Wednesday, and he needed to as he won a 1-0 duel, going 8 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 walks, striking out 9.

Top Hitter

The Oakland Athletics have had pitching put the team on their back for much of the season, but on Wednesday, outfielder Stephen Piscotty did the job, going 3-4 with 3 doubles, knocking in 3 of the A’s 4 runs.

Today’s Game to Watch

“Division leaders” is not the description that most would be used to describe the July 5th matchup of the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers, but here we are! The two teams start a series Thursday night as Max Fried takes the mound for the visiting Braves against the home Brewers and Jhoulys Chacin.
