Never one to not say what is on his mind, Cleveland Indians starter Trevor Bauer feels he has done enough to be an All Star this year. He has a point.
Cleveland Indians starter Trevor Bauer is never one to give a stock answer. A man with varied interests outside of the game of baseball, Bauer is known for his love of his drones and willingness to speak his mind. Sometimes, the latter gets him into trouble, such as when he questioned the spin rate of the Astros pitchers, insinuating that there is something possibly illegal going on.
Naturally, when asked about whether or not he should be a part of the All Star Game, Bauer was ready with an answer. He stated that not only does he belong in the MidSummer Classic, but if he is not, then someone made a mistake. Well then…

To be fair, it is hard to argue with Bauer when looking at his performance. Yes, his 8-6 record is not exactly impressive, but that is more an indictment on the Indians struggles early in the year than anything that Bauer has done. He ranks third in the AL with a 2.45 ERA and fifth with his 156 strikeouts. Bauer leads the league with a 2.15 FIP, and has kept the ball in the yard, as his 0.4 HR/9 mark is the lowest in the AL.
He is also correct in saying that is the standard he holds himself to. Every pitcher wants to be the best, and to find recognition along the way. Bauer’s goal, every season, is to make the All Star Game. This year, when he has the performance to match that, he will naturally feel that he deserves to go.
And he is absolutely correct. According to Fangraphs, Bauer is tied with Max Scherzer in WAR amongst pitchers, proving that he has been one of the best pitchers in the game. For as much attention as Jacob deGrom gets for the Mets inability to give him any run support, the Indians have failed Bauer as well.
