Mark Reynolds drives in 10 for the Washington Nationals, Wil Myers knocked out 3 home runs, and more in today’s Relief Roundup!

At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we have brought back our daily piece into our collection with all of the night’s scores in the major leagues, the top performers in the minors, the minor league schedules, and a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.

Without further adieu, let’s begin!

Yesterday’s MLB Scores

Minnesota Twins 5, Baltimore Orioles 4 in Minnesota – The Baltimore Orioles struck first in the game, scoring 3 runs in the first, but Twins starter Kyle Gibson battled back, allowing his team to come back and put up the runs needed to take the lead and secure the Saturday win.

Chicago Cubs 8, Cincinnati Reds 7 in Chicago – The Cubs had to rally from 5 runs down, but finally took the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning with 4 runs that allowed them to secure the home divisional victory over the Reds.

Philadelphia Phillies 3, Pittsburgh Pirates 2 in Pittsburgh – An excellent pitching matchup ended up being decided by one inning of offense from the Phillies, as they scored all three of their runs in the top of the 7th inning.

St. Louis Cardinals 3, San Francisco Giants 2 in San Francisco – The Cardinals got a dominant performance from their ace after some issues with injury have slowed Carlos Martinez lately. The Giants struggled to put together runs in spite of collecting more hits than the Cardinals.

New York Yankees 8, Toronto Blue Jays 5 in Toronto – The Yankees came out early and kept pushing against the Jays to get Luis Severino his league-leading 14th victory on the night.

Atlanta Braves 5, Milwaukee Brewers 1 in Milwaukee – The Braves scored 2 runs in the first inning, and they got yet another tremendous start from Anibal Sanchez to take a road win in Milwaukee.

Houston Astros 12, Chicago White Sox 6 in Houston – Houston put up big runs early in the game to put the game out of reach before the White Sox could put together a 4-run rally in the 6th inning.

Colorado Rockies 5, Seattle Mariners 1 in Seattle – The bottom of the Rockies lineup carried them on Saturday, as the 6-9 hitters in the lineup go 9-14 with 4 runs and 7 RBI while the first five spots in the lineup mustered just one hit the entire game.

Oakland Athletics 6, Cleveland Indians 3 in Cleveland, 11 innings – The A’s got 3 innings in the top of the 8th to send the game to extra innings and then another 3 innings in the top of the 11th as they stole a road win in Cleveland on Saturday.

Tampa Bay Rays 3, New York Mets 0 in New YorkBlake Snell took another step toward becoming an ace with 7 1/3 shutout innings and 9 strikeouts against the Mets, giving the Rays a road win.

Detroit Tigers 7, Texas Rangers 2 in Detroit – The Tigers exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, and while that’s all they got, it was more than enough as the Rangers couldn’t produce enough offense.

Boston Red Sox 15, Kansas City Royals 4 in Kansas City – The Red Sox offense pounded out an incredible 16 hits and drew an even more startling 13 walks, and what was most impressive was that they didn’t score at all until the 5th inning.

Los Angeles Dodgers 3, Los Angeles Angels 1 in Los Angeles – The Dodgers broke up a scoreless game in the 5th inning with a pair of runs, and that would be enough to support Ross Stripling on this night as he continued his dominance this season.

Washington Nationals 18, Miami Marlins 4 in Washington – The Nationals finally gave Max Scherzer he needed to get his 11th win on the season after being the first MLB pitcher to 10 wins almost a month ago. Mark Reynolds had an incredible game, going 5-5 and driving in 10 runs.

Arizona Diamondbacks 20, San Diego Padres 5 in Arizona – The Diamondbacks scored at least three runs in each of the first four innings of the game in a monster offensive game that helped them overcome Wil Myers’ 3 home runs on the night.

Top Pitcher

While Anibal Sanchez had the highest game score of the night, Blake Snell’s continued development into the next Tampa Bay Rays elite ace has been a fun track to watch this season. Saturday, he put up 7 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 walks, striking out 9.

Top Hitter

Even with incredible offensive performances all over the league on Saturday, this choice was easy. Washington had an incredible offensive game against Miami on Saturday, and the catalyst of that big game was Mark Reynolds, who went 5-5, scoring 3 runs, driving in 10 runs with a double and 2 home runs.

Today’s Game to Watch

They are two teams heading toward big sell-offs this season at the trade deadline, but Sunday’s matchup of the Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles in Minneapolis will feature two former teammates in Alex Cobb, now with the Orioles, and Jake Odorizzi, now with the Twins, who were formerly teammates with the Tampa Bay Rays, adding some intrigue to what would likely be an under-radar game on the schedule.
