Metaphorically speaking, the Kansas City Royals have been a dumpster fire this season. And then, on Sunday, they had an actual dumpster fire at Kauffman Stadium.

It is easy to look for ways to describe the Kansas City Royals 2018 campaign. A disaster would be one such way. Disappointing. An embarrassment. Or, even, if one preferred, their 2018 campaign could be called a dumpster fire.

The Royals took that comparison to the extreme on Sunday. As it turns out, there was a dumpster fire at 1 Royal Way, which was happening as the Royals were in the process of being swept by the Boston Red Sox.

Sometimes, the baseball gods have a sense of humor. Sometimes, when there is a team that is a disaster in every way possible, they find a way to hammer that point home. The Mets had seen everything go wrong during their tumble down the standings before there was a fire at Citi Field. And now, as the Royals season is rapidly turning into a dumpster fire, there was an actually one outside Kauffman Stadium.

At least the Royals are beginning to embrace that status. Alcides Escobar was finally kept out of a game, as Ned Yost was able to snap out of his hypnotized state. Prospects and younger roster filler are getting a chance to show they can be a part of the future. If there needs to be a visual to show how this season is going, then so be it.

This also makes one wonder who the next team to get such a visual will be. Will the Orioles have an actual Oriole slam into Chris Davis in the dugout? Would the White Sox have a laundry related incident taking out Jose Abreu? Maybe the Padres should consider bringing in an actual padre to consecrate their grounds.
