New York Mets continue Metsing with Yoenis Cespedes
The New York Mets just cannot help themselves. This time, they seemingly had no idea about Yoenis Cespedes heel injury.
In theory, at least in a well run organization, there would be communication regarding the injury status of a top player. Even if that player had been on the disabled list, and was seemingly ready to return, they would make certain that there were no other issues. At least, that would be the case in theory. And then, we have the New York Mets and Yoenis Cespedes.
After spending over nine weeks on the disabled list, Cespedes returned on Friday. Despite the thought that he would be able to play a day game after a night game, he was out of the lineup on Saturday. As it turns out, he had a major heel injury that may require surgery, that the Mets were completely unaware of. Naturally, they had nothing to say about that confusion.

It is not as though this is a new injury, or something minor. Cespedes has calcification in both of his heels, which caused the leg pain he had been dealing with before. In order to correct this problem, Cespedes would need surgery on both heels, or so he says. The recovery time for that surgery? Only eight to ten months, which he is hoping to put off until the offseason.
At this point, one has to wonder why the Mets even took him off of the disabled list in the first place. He moved like the Mets version of Willie Mays in the one game he was back, obviously in pain. Having his bat in the lineup is not going to do anything for a team that is mired in the basement, and has zero chance of reaching the postseason will not matter. If he is that hurt, he should not have been back in the first place.
The sensible thing to do would be to keep Cespedes on the disabled list and leave him there for the rest of the year. Even on the longer end of his recovery time, he would be back for the final four months of 2019, potentially giving the Mets a boost. Instead, the Mets are going to Mets, and bring him back when he obviously should not have. And then, they won’t tell anyone what is happening.

The New York Mets truly Mets the Yeonis Cespedes situation. Hopefully, they do the right thing, put him back on the disabled list, and let him get the surgery he needs on his heels.
