At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we have brought back our daily piece into our collection with all of the night’s scores in the major leagues, the top performers in the minors, the minor league schedules, and a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.
Without further adieu, let’s begin!

Oakland Athletics 4, San Francisco Giants 3, 11 innings in Oakland – The Oakland Athletics made the big trade of the day, and then finished the day with a walk-off win in the 11th inning over their Bay rivals on Saturday night.
Chicago White Sox @ Seattle Mariners in Seattle – Dylan Covey continued his surprising run this year for the White Sox, tossing 8 1/3 innings of shutout ball and the White Sox shut out the Mariners at home.
Top Pitcher
Dylan Covey’s season has had some of the typical ups and downs of a rookie, hence the 4.95 ERA, but for a pitcher that was relatively unknown before the season, he’s been very solid in the Chicago rotation. Saturday, he tossed a brilliant game in Seattle, going 8 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 walks, striking out 5.

Today’s Game to Watch
The Washington Nationals headed into the break at exactly .500 and then hosted the MLB All-Star game festivities. They lost their first game out of the break to the Atlanta Braves, one of the two teams they’re chasing in the NL East right now. Sunday, they turn to their ace to hopefully grab one game in the weekend as Max Scherzer faces Mike Foltynewicz in a matchup of two All-Star pitchers.
