Chicago Cubs get it right for a young fan
By David Hill
After trying to give a ball to a young fan and having someone take it away, the Chicago Cubs made things right.
There are certain things that seem obvious at a ball game. Pay attention when someone is at the plate. Don’t interfere with a ball in play. Don’t take a ball away from a young fan, especially when the kid is given the ball by a player. Or, at the very least, these statements should be obvious at a game.
That was not the case at the Chicago Cubs game on Sunday. A young kid sitting in the first row had a ball tossed to him, and missed it. So, the guy behind him reached down, picked it up, and claimed it as a gift to the woman sitting next to him. Tough luck kid.

You had to feel bad for the kid. He simply accepted his fate, understanding that the guy behind him probably was not hugged enough as a child and has a sense of entitlement that is truly outrageous. Sometimes, the good guy does not win, as that young child learned. In that moment, Santa and the Easter Bunny were no longer real – innocence was dead.
Fortunately, someone on the Cubs noticed what happened. That guy may have gotten the first ball, but neither he nor the woman sitting next to him would end up with the last laugh. The Cubs made it right, giving the kid another game used ball, and a baseball signed by Javier Baez. That guy and the woman next to him? Nothing but the outrage and scorn of the internet for them, a well deserved fate.

In this case, the young fan made out in the deal, getting that game used ball and and autographed baseball as well. Kudos to the Chicago Cubs for doing the right thing and making that child’s day.
