Mike Trout had a huge game for the Los Angeles Angels, and more in today’s Relief Roundup!
At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we have brought back our daily piece into our collection with all of the night’s scores in the major leagues, the top performers in the minors, the minor league schedules, and a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.
Without further adieu, let’s begin!
Last night’s MLB Scores
Tampa Bay Rays 3, New York Yankees 2 in Tampa Bay – The Rays could only get runs in one inning, but that was enough on Wednesday, as they defeated the Yankees at home.
New York Mets 6, San Diego Padres 4 in New York – By a nearly identical score as they scored the night before, the Mets were able to get a win on Wednesday, scoring all six runs between the 5th and 6th innings.
Philadelphia Phillies 7, Los Angeles Dodgers 3 in Philadelphia – The Phillies were able to get a big inning in the 5th inning to blow open what was a tight pitcher’s duel.
Cincinnati Reds 7, St. Louis Cardinals 3 in Cincinnati – The Reds put up a pair of runs in the first inning and kept putting up runs throughout the game, efficiently generating runs out of their 10 hits.
Cleveland Indians 4, Pittsburgh Pirates 0 in Cleveland – Trevor Bauer had a tremendous game for the Indians, tossing 7 shutout innings, striking out 10, and the new relievers from the Padres combined to finish the game behind him as the Indians got the shutout.
Washington Nationals 7, Milwaukee Brewers 3 in Milwaukee – The Nationals put up 3 runs in the first inning, and Tanner Roark, who has struggled this year, pitched a gem as the Nationals got a road win.
Detroit Tigers 8, Kansas City Royals 4 in Kansas City – A tight ballgame early on was blown up when the Tigers put up 4 runs in the 4th inning and then another pair of runs in the 6th.
Chicago Cubs 2, Arizona Diamondbacks 1 in Chicago – The Cubs and Diamondbacks played a nip-tuck game that was decided in the bullpen and won on a run scored in the bottom of the 8th inning as the Diamondbacks committed two errors in the inning.
Minnesota Twins 12, Toronto Blue Jays 6, 11 innings in Toronto – The Twins scored a pair of runs to take a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the 8th inning, but the bullpen let the Blue Jays tie the game. After a scoreless 10th, the Twins offense exploded in the 11th for 6 runs to put the game away.
Seattle Mariners 3, San Francisco Giants 2 in Seattle – The Giants tied the game at 2 in the top of the 7th, but the Mariners offense pushed across another run in the bottom of the 8th to take home the win.
Boston Red Sox @ Baltimore Orioles in Baltimore – Postponed
Oakland Athletics 6, Texas Rangers 5 in Texas – The Athletics remained hot with a comeback win on Wednesday. Down 5-1, the A’s scored 3 in the 7th and then another 2 in the 9th to pull out the road victory.
Colorado Rockies 3, Houston Astros 2 in Colorado – The Astros jumped out to grab a 2-1 lead, but the Rockies tied the game in the 7th and then walked off with a win on a Charlie Blackmon home run.
Los Angeles Angels 11, Chicago White Sox 3 in Los Angeles – The Angels put up a pair of runs in the first two innings, but after the White Sox tied the game, the Angels scored 9 runs in the 5th and 6th to win.
Top Pitcher
Washington Nationals starter Tanner Roark has had struggles this season, but he made a case to keep his rotation spot with his Wednesday start, tossing 8 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and a walk, striking out 11.
Top Hitter
The top hitter on any day actually had the best day on Wednesday as Mike Trout went 3-4 with a double and 2 home runs, scoring 3 runs, driving in 4 runs.
Today’s Game to Watch
His last game turned into fireworks after he was pulled in a rough game, but if the Washington Nationals will have any chance of getting back into the NL East race, they will need Stephen Strasburg going well. He takes the mound Thursday night on the road in Miami against Dan Straily and the Marlins.
