The New York Yankees picked up extra international spending money over the past two days in trades. They’ve already spent some of it and look to add even more international talent

The New York Yankees have a ton of talent and a 40 man roster crunch. They can’t keep everyone on the 40 man roster so they’ve been using pitching they may not have kept next year and lost for nothing in the rule V draft.

The $1.5 million they added has already come into play as $600k of it is already gone.

The club inked mlbpipeline.com’s ninth ranked prospect in Cuban pitcher Osiel Rodriguez.

Per Sanchez, they are looking at another pitcher in Sandy Gaston, another 16 year old Cuban right-hander.

They are also connected to MLBpipeline’s 10th ranked prospect in outfielder Kevin Alcantara, 11th ranked catcher Antonio Gomez and number 29 pitcher Denny Larrondo. This is after signing five of the top 30 from last year’s list.

This is a great strategy by the New York Yankees. Use depth they can’t keep now to help them get more money to spend internationally to continue to add to their pipeline. We’ve already seen their international spending be an important part of their core with Luis Severino, Gary Sanchez and Miguel Andujar.

The New York Yankees have done a great job in recent years of restocking the farm system and continuously reloading of the farm system and using that depth to help acquire talent should they need it like their deals for J.A. Happ and Zach Britton.

Look for the New York Yankees to continue this strategy moving forward, possibly even before the trade deadline on Tuesday.
