The Dodgers crush the Brewers, Steve Pearce hits 3 home runs for Boston against the Yankees, and more in today’s Relief Roundup!

At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we have brought back our daily piece into our collection with all of the night’s scores in the major leagues, the top performers in the minors, the minor league schedules, and a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.

Without further adieu, let’s begin!

Last night’s MLB Scores

Tampa Bay Rays 4, Los Angeles Angels 2 in Tampa Bay – A 4-run rally in the bottom of the 4th inning was all the scoring the Rays would do, but it was all they would need in order to sink the visiting Angels on Thursday.

St. Louis Cardinals 3, Colorado Rockies 2 in St. Louis – The Cardinals walked off with a win on a pinch-hit 2-run single by Jose Martinez off Rockies closer Wade Davis.

Chicago White Sox 6, Kansas City Royals 4 in Chicago – Two young starters had excellent ballgames, but the bullpens both individually blew it, with the White Sox able to put up 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to secure the victory.

Washington Nationals 10, Cincinnati Reds 4 in Washington – The Washington Nationals gave Max Scherzer a 6-run lead in the bottom of the 2nd, and he cruised to his 15th win, posting 10 strikeouts over 6 innings.

Philadelphia Phillies 5, Miami Marlins 2 in Philadelphia – The Phillies walked off with a win on Maikel Franco‘s home run in the bottom of the 9th, as the Phillies came back from a 2-1 deficit to win the game.

Atlanta Braves 4, New York Mets 2 in New York – The Braves got a 3-run top of the 3rd inning to break a 1-1 tie and coasted from there with excellent pitching all around from the Braves staff, both starting and relief.

Boston Red Sox 15, New York Yankees 7 in Boston – The game started out like a typical Red Sox/Yankees game with blows back and forth early on, but the Red Sox, behind an 8-run 4th inning and 3 home runs from Steve Pearce, blew out the Yankees in Boxton on Thursday.

Texas Rangers 17, Baltimore Orioles 8 in Texas – The Rangers put up 10 runs in the first two innings and coasted to a victory from there, with some pretty incredible performances on the night, including Rougned Odor, who became the first MLB player to hit a home run and then draw 5 walks in the same game.

San Diego Padres 6, Chicago Cubs 1 in Chicago – The Cubs held a tight 1-0 lead going into the top of the 6th, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead as the Padres offense was able to put together 3 runs in the top of the 6th.

Los Angeles Dodgers 21, Milwaukee Brewers 5 in Los Angeles – The Dodgers had a huge game over the Brewers on Thursday to support Clayton Kershaw, hitting 7 home runs.

San Francisco Giants 8, Arizona Diamondbacks 1 in Arizona – Bumgarner and Greinke had a classic pitchers’ duel going, but the vaunted Diamondbacks bullpen struggled late, giving up 5 runs in the 8th inning.

Toronto Blue Jays 7, Seattle Mariners 3 in Seattle – The Blue Jays and Mariners played to a 2-2 tie until the 7th inning, when the Jays broke through for another 2 runs and finished the game with 3 in the top of the 9th to put the game out of reach.

Top Pitcher

The Blue Jays just picked up Mike Hauschild on August 2nd after being released on July 30th. On Thursday, he followed Tyler Clippard in the game for the Jays, and he was exceptional, tossing 6 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits and a walk, striking out 5.

Top Hitter

Steve Pearce had a huge day at the plate for the Red Sox against the Yankees, going 3-5 with 3 home runs, 6 RBI, and a walk.

Today’s Game to Watch

The Cardinals are holding on to slim chances of staying in the playoff race as they travel to Pittsburgh for a 7:05 pm Eastern start. Chris Archer will make his Pirate debut against John Gant for the Cardinals.
