The Houston Astros dominated the Dodgers on Saturday night, Corey Kluber tossed a complete game shutout, and more in today’s Relief Roundup!

At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we have brought back our daily piece into our collection with all of the night’s scores in the major leagues, the top performers in the minors, the minor league schedules, and a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.

Without further adieu, let’s begin!

Last night’s MLB Scores

Chicago Cubs 5, San Diego Padres 4 in Chicago – The Cubs scored all 5 of their runs in the bottom of the 2nd, and then the pitching made the big lead stand up for a one-run victory at home on Saturday.

Boston Red Sox 4, New York Yankees 1 in BostonNathan Eovaldi continued to dominate in a Boston uniform, and the Red Sox gave him all the support he’d need with a 2-spot in the bottom of the 1st inning.

Chicago White Sox 2, Tampa Bay Rays 1 in Tampa Bay – The White Sox score a run in the top of the 9th to break a 1-1 tie and come away with the win in a very tight, pitching-dominated matchup.

Cincinnati Reds 7, Washington Nationals 1, Game 1 in Washington – The Reds score in each of the first four innings, and have 13 hits and 5 walks on the day to constantly keep pressure on Nationals pitching in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Washington Nationals 6, Cincinnati Reds 2, Game 2 in Washington – The Nationals keep after Matt Harvey and are able to come away with the split in the doubleheader in taking the nightcap at home on Saturday.

Philadelphia Phillies 8, Miami Marlins 3 in Philadelphia – The Phillies jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and coasted to a stress-free victory on Saturday at home.

St. Louis Cardinals 8, Pittsburgh Pirates 4 in Pittsburgh – The Cardinals went big in the middle innings, scoring 3 in the 3rd, and then scoring in each of the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to pull out where the Pirates couldn’t come back.

New York Mets 3, Atlanta Braves 0 in New YorkZack Wheeler remained one of the hottest pitchers in all of baseball, dominating the Braves lineup as the Mets spoiled Kevin Gausman‘s Braves debut.

Milwaukee Brewers 8, Colorado Rockies 4 in Milwaukee – The Brewers scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and coasted to a victory on Saturday home in Milwaukee.

Minnesota Twins 8, Kansas City Royals 2 in Minnesota – The Twins celebrated inducting Johan Santana into the team’s Hall of Fame by scoring multiple runs in 3 innings against the Royals at home.

Cleveland Indians 3, Los Angeles Angels 0 in ClevelandCorey Kluber pitched a gem for the Indians, tossing a complete game shutout with 7 strikeouts and Leonys Martin hits his second home run in as many days.

Texas Rangers 3, Baltimore Orioles 1 in Texas – The Rangers scored a pair of runs in the 4th inning, and Mike Minor made that plenty as the Rangers continued dominating the Orioles in their weekend series.

Arizona Diamondbacks 9, San Francisco Giants 3 in Arizona – The Diamondbacks scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st, and that was all they would need to score a home victory on this night, in spite of 5 hits on the night for Andrew McCutchen.

Oakland Athletics 2, Detroit Tigers 1 in Oakland – The Tigers put up a run in the top of the 1st inning, but that’s all they would get as the A’s scored 2 of their own in the 3rd, enough to take the victory.

Houston Astros 14, Los Angeles Dodgers 0 in Los Angeles – A 1-0 game going into the 6th inning was blown out of the water by the Astros offense, as they scored 4 in the 6th and another 7 in the 8th to put the game ridiculously out of reach.

Toronto Blue Jays 5, Seattle Mariners 0 in Seattle – The Blue Jays continued their dominance in Seattle with a dominant pitching performance from Marco Estrada.

Top Pitcher

Corey Kluber had a dominant game for the Indians after watching the bullpen falter recently, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing 3 hits and a walk, striking out 7.

Top Hitter

Andrew McCutchen will likely be a very high-interest player in the waiver trade period. He showed off why a team should want him on Saturday, as he went 5-5 with a run, double, home run, and 2 RBI.

Today’s Game to Watch

While most are focused on the Yankees/Red Sox this weekend, on the West Coast, the Houston Astros are in Los Angeles to face the Dodgers in a rematch of last season’s World Series. Two pitchers who were not part of that World Series but will factor heavily if their respective team returns to the Fall Classic take the mound in Los Angeles as Gerrit Cole faces off against Walker Buehler in a 4:05 pm Eastern game.
