After the way his tenure with the New York Mets ended, do not expect Cincinnati Reds pitcher Matt Harve to do his former team any favors.

Press conferences are usually relatively benign, particularly before a game. It is usually a time of empty quotes and platitudes, a chance for complimentary words and niceties. Unless, of course, it involves Cincinnati Reds pitcher Matt Harvey and the New York Mets.

See, Harvey had his press conference scheduled for 4:00 PM today. Coincidentally, Mets manager Mickey Callaway had his press conference scheduled for the same time. So, Harey was asked if he could move his press conference, with predictable results.

This really should not be a surprise. After being the toast of New York, the Dark Knight, in 2015, Harvey’s fortunes changed. He struggled in his last two and a half years in New York, posting a 9-19 record with a 5.93 ERA and a 1.578 WHiP. Rumors of his penchant for the nightlife and his refusal to listen to coaching began to surface. New York had turned on Harvey before his departure on Cincinnati.

It is a far cry from what Harvey has become since leaving the Mets. In his 15 outings with the Reds, Harvey has been closer to competent. He is not back to his glory days, but his 4.79 ERA and 1.273 WHiP, along with his 57 strikeouts and 19 walks in 77 innings, is at least competent. Those numbers were even better until a rough stretch for Harvey in his past three outings.

While there still seems to be a bit of bad blood, at least as far as Harvey concerned, the Mets are doing their part to bury the hatchet. Prior to the game on Monday, they will have a tribute video for his accomplishments in a Mets uniform. Obviously, most of these highlights will be from 2015 and earlier, but it is a nice gesture for their former ace.
