Red Sox come back for extra inning win over the Yankees, and more in today’s Relief Roundup!

At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we have brought back our daily piece into our collection with all of the night’s scores in the major leagues, the top performers in the minors, the minor league schedules, and a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.

Without further adieu, let’s begin!

Last night’s MLB Scores

Atlanta Braves 5, New York Mets 4, 10 innings in New York – The Braves closed out a successful weekend against the Mets as Nick Markakis and Ender Inciarte combined for 7 hits in 9 at bats to lead the offensive attack.

Chicago White Sox 8, Tampa Bay Rays 7 in Tampa Bay – A nip/tuck game all along that featured 4 lead changes and 3 ties finished with the White Sox putting up 2 in the 9th and holding on as the Rays rallied, but only got one in the bottom of the inning.

Cleveland Indians 4, Los Angeles Angels 3 in Cleveland – The Indians put up 3 runs in the bottom of the first and withstood multiple comebacks from the Angels over the game to secure the home victory to close out the weekend.

Washington Nationals 2, Cincinnati Reds 1 in Washington – The Nationals gave Tanner Roark multiple runs right away, and Roark showed the guy the Nationals have been waiting on all season in dominating the Reds.

Philadelphia Phillies 5, Miami Marlins 3 in Philadelphia – Though he didn’t have his dominant, “ace” stuff, Aaron Nola battled through 6 innings and gave the game over to the bullpen with a narrow lead.

St. Louis Cardinals 2, Pittsburgh Pirates 1 in Pittsburgh – The Cardinals scored both of their runs in the 5th inning and came out with 10 hits on the day as the Cardinals scored a home win.

Colorado Rockies 5, Milwaukee Brewers 4, 11 innings in Milwaukee – The Rockies Took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 9th, but even with a different arm in the spot, Colorado’s struggles closing down games continues, though they were able to get a Nolan Arenado home run in the 11th to win the game on the road.

Minnesota Twins 6, Kansas City Royals 5 in Minnesota – The Twins put up 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd, and the Twins were able to make it stand up to close out the sweep.

San Diego Padres 10, Chicago Cubs 6 in Chicago – The Padres took a 6-5 game in the top of the 9th inning and put up a 4-spot to push the game out of reach for a road win on Sunday.

Baltimore Orioles 9, Texas Rangers 6 in Texas – The Orioles jumped out to an early 6-5 lead over 3 innings and added enough to make things comfortable. Jonathan Villar hit a double, home run, and stole a base.

Oakland Athletics 6, Detroit Tigers 0 in Oakland – The A’s got a brilliant start from Trevor Cahill and backed him up with solid offense as well, as the A’s powered out 3 home runs in the game.

Los Angeles Dodgers 3, Houston Astros 2 in Los Angeles – The Dodgers put up a pair of runs in the first inning and rookie Walker Buehler made them stand up on the game, striking out 8 over 5 1/3 innings.

San Francisco Giants 3, Arizona Diamondbacks 2 in Arizona – The Giants got a split on the weekend series with the Diamondbacks with a solid win on Sunday as Even Longoria went 3-4 with a double and a home run.

Seattle Mariners 6, Toronto Blue Jays 3 in Seattle – The Mariners took one game on the weekend series, overcoming a rowdy Blue Jays travel crowd to hit three home runs and use their dynamic bullpen to finish the game off.

Boston Red Sox 5, New York Yankees 4, 10 innings in Boston – The Yankees had a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 9th, but the Red Sox rallied for 3 runs to tie the game and then walked off in the bottom of the 10th on an Andrew Benintendi single.

Top Pitcher

He had significant struggled to open the season, but Colorado Rockies ace Jon Gray is certainly on track now. He tossed 8 innings of 1-run ball on Sunday, allowing 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 8. The bullpen gave up his lead, so he didn’t get the win, but the Rockies did come away with the road victory.

Top Hitter

Hurt for much of the season, Avisail Garcia is out to prove that his 2017 breakout was no fluke. Games like Sunday’s will certainly help that cause. Garcia went 2-4 with a pair of home runs, scoring 3 runs, drawing a walk, and even stealing a base in the White Sox 8-7 win over the Rays.

Today’s Game to Watch

Two teams fighting for a playoff spot face off on Monday as the Phillies travel to Arizona to face the Diamondbacks. The Phillies send their co-ace Jake Arrieta to the hill.
