In spite of Ryan Zimmerman‘s big day, the Washington Nationals could only draw a split in their doubleheader, and more in today’s Relief Roundup!

At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we have brought back our daily piece into our collection with all of the night’s scores in the major leagues, the top performers in the minors, the minor league schedules, and a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.

Without further adieu, let’s begin!

Last night’s MLB Scores

Washington Nationals 8, Atlanta Braves 3, Game 1 in Washington – The Nationals jumped all over the Braves in the 4th and 6th innings, putting up 4 runs in each inning to take the first game of the doubleheader.

Atlanta Braves 3, Washington Nationals 1, Game 2 in Washington – The Nationals struck first, and with ace Max Scherzer, they thought that’s probably all they needed, but the Braves were able to get one against Scherzer and then a pair in the top of the 9th to get the doubleheader split.

Houston Astros 2, San Francisco Giants 1 in San Francisco – The Astros again victimized Giants reliever Will Smith, scoring 2 runs in the 8th inning off of him to get the road victory Tuesday afternoon.

Boston Red Sox 10, Toronto Blue Jays 7, 10 innings in Toronto – A fairly low-scoring affair over the first 7 innings, the Red Sox turned a 3-1 Blue Jays lead into a 5-3 Sox edge in the top of the 8th. The Jays tied the game in the bottom of the 9th, but the Red Sox scored 5 in the top of the 10th to blow this one out of the water.

Tampa Bay Rays 4, Baltimore Orioles 3 in Tampa Bay – The Orioles brought a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th, but the Rays tied the score in the 8th and were able to walk off on a home run by rookie Willy Adames to win the game in the bottom of the 9th.

Cincinnati Reds 6, New York Mets 1 in New York – The Reds jumped out with 3 runs in the first inning, and Sal Romano had a brilliant game in front of family and friends, making his first start in New York as a former New York boy.

Minnesota Twins 3, Cleveland Indians 2 in Cleveland – The Twins put up 3 runs in the 2nd inning against the Indians, and the Cleveland bats would be silent until the 8th inning and still wouldn’t be able to come up with enough to overcome the early scoring.

St. Louis Cardinals 3, Miami Marlins 2 in Miami – The Cardinals didn’t score until late, but they gave top starter Miles Mikolas just enough when they did to eke out a 3-2 win, Mikolas’ 12th on the season.

Texas Rangers 11, Seattle Mariners 4 in Texas – The Mariners opened with a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning, but the Rangers responded with 4 runs in that inning, and the rout was on from that point.

New York Yankees 4, Chicago White Sox 3, 13 innings in Chicago – A 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, both teams scored a pair of runs in the 10th inning, and then were quiet again until the Yankees got one more in the 13th to seal the win.

San Diego Padres 11, Milwaukee Brewers 5 in Milwaukee – The Brewers jumped out with 4 runs in the first inning, but when the Padres started scoring, they didn’t stop, scoring in every inning from the 3rd inning on to blow out the Brewers on the road.

Philadelphia Phillies 5, Arizona Diamondbacks 2 in Arizona – A tremendous pitching matchup was handed off to the bullpen and lost a lot of its luster as the Phillies scored 4 runs on the Diamondbacks bullpen in the 8th after both starters combined to allow just 1 run, tossing a combined 13 innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers 4, Oakland Athletics 2 in Oakland – The Dodgers scored in each of the first three innings and Rich Hill made the early runs stand up for a road win against the red-hot A’s.

Los Angeles Angels 11, Detroit Tigers 5 in Los Angeles – The Angels jumped out with 7 runs in the first inning, and the game was never in doubt from that point forward as the Angels got a home win.

Chicago Cubs 5, Kansas City Royals 0 in Kansas CityMike Montgomery and 3 relievers combined on a shutout and the Cubs scored a pair of runs in the 1st that proved all the team would need for the road win in Kansas City.

Pittsburgh Pirates 10, Colorado Rockies 2 in Colorado – The Pirates exploded for 9 runs in the 4th and 5th innings to put the game completely out of reach and Jameson Taillon coasted to his 9th win on the year, tossing a complete game.

Top Pitcher

Doing what he does, Madison Bumgarner pushed through and tossed 7 scoreless innings against the strong Astros lineup, allowing 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 7.

Top Hitter

Ryan Zimmerman had a heck of a doubleheader on Tuesday for the Nationals. In game one, he drove out a home run and had 3 RBI, and in the nightcap, he was perfect at the plate. All told, Zimmerman went 6-8 on the day with a pair of doubles, a home run, a run, 3 RBI, and a walk.

Today’s Game to Watch

The Dodgers face off against the one of the hottest teams in the game as they face the Oakland Athletics for a 10:05 pm Eastern game. Clayton Kershaw takes the mound on the road as Mike Fiers makes his Athletics debut.
