Curtis Granderson has cleared trade waivers and with the New York Yankees needing some outfield depth, now is the time to bring him back to the Bronx

With injuries to Aaron Judge and Clint Frazier and trades of Billy McKinney and Brandon Drury, the New York Yankees outfield depth has taken a major hit. It’s gotten to the point where Neil Walker is playing right field, a position he hadn’t played in years and since the minor leagues. Even if Judge comes back soon, with the kind of wrist injury he has, you cant guarantee he’s going to be the MVP caliber player the rest of the way.

It’s time for the club to address the outfield depth. Sorry Shane Robinson. It’s time for John Sterling to break out the Grandy Man can home run call and for the club to bring back Curtis Granderson.

Granderson, who just cleared trade waivers, would give them a little more left-handed thump, which is something they don’t have much of outside of Didi Gregorious with Greg Bird‘s struggles. Speaking of that, it gives them the freedom to use Walker at first and even second with Gleyber Torres‘ struggles since returning from his injury.

Against righties, Granderson is hitting .241 with a .766 OPS against righties which is higher than Walker, Bird, Brett Gardner and Gary Sanchez this season and with that short porch in right field, that will certainly be a target for him.

When Judge come back, he won’t be a guy who would complain about being part time or playing once or twice a week. He’s been on the World Series loser two of the past three seasons and for the 37-year old, this may be his last shot.

Granderson’s salary for the season is $5 million, so the money remaining on the deal over the final weeks won’t even interfere with the New York Yankees desire to remain under the luxury tax.

With the New York Yankees outfield depth compromised, it’s time for them to add another piece before the August 31st deadline. Reuniting with Curtis Granderson makes sense.
