One of the few expiring contracts on the Cincinnati Reds in Matt Harvey has been claimed on trade waivers

Who says the trading fun stops in July? August has already been a busy month for trades and with the waiver deadline just a little over a week away, we are sure to see some more deals. One of those deals may be for Cincinnati Reds pitcher Matt Harvey, who was claimed on trade waivers.

Harvey has been much better since finding himself on the Cincinnati Reds after the trade from the New York Mets. While with the Reds, Harvey is 6-5 with a 4.28 ERA in 17 starts. Harvey’s velocity is about the same as it was last year, but he’s using his fastball and slider slightly more this year.

Who’s the team that claimed him and where could Harvey find himself in the next 48 hours. ?

The Milwaukee Brewers would make sense. They could use another starter and they were rumored to be trying to acquire him before the non-waiver deadline a month ago. Even though the New York Yankees could use an arm, I can’t see them bringing the Dark Knight back to Gotham.

Could the Seattle Mariners or Oakland Athletics try and make a deal with Cincinnati Reds and add another starter for the stretch drive? The Mariners have seen Mike Leake get sick, James Paxton go down to injury and Felix Hernandez be ineffective. Oakland has been piecing it together and getting good results, would they want some insurance?

Harvey is definitely one of the best arms left on the trade market, which speaks to the lack of arms and the turnaround he has had this season.  The Cincinnati Reds should turn his expiring contract into a minor leaguer as they continue their rebuilding process.
