The San Diego Padres are calling up one of their top prospects in infielder Luis Urias to make his major league debut on Tuesday
As we get closer and closer to September, even if your squad is out of it, there is still reason to watch. If you are a San Diego Padres fan, you want to get a glimpse of what could be a very promising future but watching some prospects. They’ve called up a ton of pitchers this year to take a look at the rest of the way as their starting rotation for 2019 is in a bit of a state of flux. They’ve called up some bats as well in the outfield, and now, we will get to see one of their top infield prospects come into play in Luis Urias.

Per MLB Pipeline, Urias is the top second base prospect in the game and the 22nd overall prospect in baseball. In AAA this year, the 21 year old is hitting .296 with an .845 OPS in 120 games.
The San Diego Padres have not gotten a ton of production out of second base this year. Jose Pirela has been used as a super utility player. Carlos Asuaje has really struggled this year and Cory Spangenberg is more of a utility piece like Pirela. They haven’t had a guy take the reins in that position and this opens the door for Urias.
This is the perfect time to let Urias play and see if he can be the guy moving forward for the San Diego Padres. They need to start looking at their prospect stash and see who’s trade bait, who won’t make it and who are building blocks.
The San Diego Padres double play combination of the future is Fernando Tatis Jr.and Urias. Tomorrow night, the club will get a glimpse of half of it.
