The New York Yankees have had many different lineups compile a massive amount of home runs throughout their illustrious franchise history. However, the 2018 Bronx Bombers have topped them all!

Luke Voit is stealing the hearts of New York Yankees fans as he continues to produce in a way that fans hoped Greg Bird would produce.  Fittingly enough, Voit helped the Yankees break a franchise record and set a new MLB record with one swing of the bat.

In the bottom of the second inning on Thursday night, Voit hit a 92.6 mph fastball off of Boston Red Sox starter Eduardo RodriguezAccording to the Dinger Tracker on Twitter, the exit velocity of his home run was 107 mph with a launch angle of 32 degrees.  The ball traveled 407 feet and coincidentally landed in a place full of history behind the center field fence called Monument Park.

This deep home run by Voit gave the Yankees their 246th team home run on the 2018 season for a new franchise record.  The previous record of 245 home runs was set by the 2012 Bronx Bombers and they featured a big name lineup.  These big names included Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, Andruw Jones, Ichiro Suzuki, Raul Ibanez, Derek Jeter, and many more great players.

The 2018 team features four players with 25 or more home runs.  These players include Giancarlo Stanton, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Judge, and Miguel Andujar.  However, with Voit’s 10th home run as a Yankee on Thursday, the 2018 team now also features 12 individual players with 10 or more home runs.

No team has ever had 12 players hit 10 or more home runs in one season, which sets a new MLB record.  The Bronx Bombers are unlikely to reach 13 players with 10 or more home runs as Andrew McCutchen would need to hit six more through the final ten games of the season.  However, this feat is definitely impressive as it shows the power depth within the Yankees lineup.

As there have been many historic Yankees lineups, both records are very impressive feats for the 2018 Bronx Bombers.  These home runs will likely be one of the main reasons for the team reaching the playoffs, but time will tell if this power will hold true against the elite pitching of the American League playoff teams.
