Colorado Rockies: Ian Desmond wants to win a playoff series
The Colorado Rockies game tonight might only be the wild card game, but for Ian Desmond, it’s another shot at the first playoff win of his career.
Ian Desmond is in his second season with the Colorado Rockies. He might not have been great, but he was a workhorse, appearing in 160 games this year.
He was rewarded for his hard work and consistency with another trip to the playoffs. This is his third trip to the playoffs in three seasons and his fifth time overall.
You would think that a player who’s been to the playoffs so many times would have had some level of success in October, but with Desmond, that’s not the case. He has yet to make it to the Championship Series.

His first trip to the playoffs was with the Nationals in 2012 as a 26-year-old. He was actually really good that year in the NLDS, as he hit .368 over the five games. Unfortunately, the Nationals lost to the Cardinals that year.
In 2014, he made it to the playoffs with the Nationals again. He didn’t hit as well this time around and the Nationals lost to the Giants.
In 2016 he made it to the playoffs with the Rangers. During the season, he hit .285 but went 3 for 14 as the Rangers were swept by the Blue Jays.
Desmond found another change of scenery in 2017 when he signed with the Rockies and it was much of the same story. The Rockies made it to the wild card game last year but lost to the Diamondbacks.
Maybe this year will be different. The Rockies have a better team this year. Thanks to the continued success of Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado, the Rockies won four more games in 2018 than in 2017. It was their first 90 win season since 2009.
In the wild card game tonight, they will be playing against the Cubs for another shot at making it to the NLDS. If the Colorado Rockies win, it will be Desmond’s first playoff win ans he would have yet another shot at making it into the NLCS.
The guy deserves it. He’s played in more than 1,300 games and pretty much has as bad a playoff history as Carlos Beltran had entering the 2017 season.
