MLB Playoffs: The Boston Red Sox defeated their long-time rival New York Yankees by a score of 5-4 in Game 1 of the ALDS at Fenway Park.

For each 2018 postseason matchup, there will be a game thread on Call To The Pen that will feature comments from members of our writing team!  This is our game thread for Game 2 of the NYY vs BOS ALDS matchup!  These games threads will be put up for each game individually from the start of the MLB playoffs and continuing through the end of the World Series!

The New York Yankees acquired J.A. Happ to stabilize their rotation down the stretch, but it is well-known that they also acquired him due to his previous success against the Boston Red Sox.  However, as many pitchers become less effective the third or fourth time through a lineup, Happ facing the Red Sox just last week most likely kept him fresh in the hitters minds.

Due to this, Happ surrendered 5 earned runs on the night while only completing 2.0 innings pitched.  The scoring got started with a three-run home run by MVP candidate J.D. Martinez.  The Red Sox then added two runs against Chad Green, but the runners allowed were put on by Happ.

Despite an early 5-0 deficit through 3 innings, the Yankees made a comeback attempt by scoring 2 runs in the 6th, 1 in the 7th, and 1 in the 9th.  Chris Sale was charged with the 2 runs in the 6th inning, Brandon Workman was charged with 1 run in the 7th, and Craig Kimbrel was charged with 1 run after a home run by Aaron Judge in the 9th inning.  Nonetheless, the Red Sox held on for a Game 1 victory at home.
