After being dismissed by the Baltimore Orioles, it is time to find a new team for former manager Buck Showalter.
The 2018 campaign was a disaster for Buck Showalter and the Baltimore Orioles. Virtually everything that could have gone wrong did, as the Orioles staggered to a 47-115 record, the worst in the game since the 2003 Detroit Tigers. Understandably, Showalter was dismissed, as it would be difficult to bring a manager back after that sort of disastrous season.
However, to focus on that one season would be a disservice to Showalter. He had guided the Orioles to the postseason three times, and had a winning record in six of his nine seasons in Baltimore. He had been a solid manager throughout his career – a three time Manager of the year who had been able to develop a young roster and guide a team to the postseason.
It is that ability to develop younger talent that would make Showalter such an intriguing option for a few teams looking for a new manager. While he has never made it to the World Series, he has been able to bring younger rosters to the playoffs, helping to develop those teams into contenders. The Yankees and Diamondbacks both won the World Series in the next year after Showalter departed, with the Rangers making consecutive trips within a couple of years. Maybe there is hope for the Orioles after all…
Buck Showalter could be an interesting option for a team looking for someone to help develop their young talent. Here are a few options that would make sense for Showalter.
