MLB Playoffs: The Milwaukee Brewers have won the first two games of their NLDS matchup with the Colorado Rockies. However, the series is now on its way to Denver, which may light a spark in the Rockies offense.

For each 2018 postseason matchup, there will be a game thread on Call To The Pen that will feature comments from members of our writing team!  This is our game thread for Game 2 of the MIL vs COL NLDS matchup!  These games threads will be put up for each game individually from the start of the MLB playoffs and continuing through the end of the World Series!

The Colorado Rockies are normally known for their offensive production, but they have only managed to put together 2 runs in the first 19 innings of the NLDS matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers.  As this series shifts back to Denver, the Rockies will be playing in front of a loud Rocktober crowd for the first time since 2009.  This may be the spark the team needs to get the offense back on track.

Nonetheless, the Brewers will have a chance to end the series at the home of their opponents.  Milwaukee won the first game in extra innings by a score of 3-2 and they won the second game without the use of extra innings by a score of 4-0.  Will the Rockies be able to rally in front of their home crowd, or will the Brewers be able to keep stifling the Rockies hitters to sweep the series?

The Starting Pitcher for the Rockies in Game 3 of the NLDS

The Rockies will turn to German Marquez to keep their season alive.  Marquez finished the 2018 season with a 14-11 record, a 3.77 ERA, a 3.40 FIP, and a 1.204 WHIP in 196.0 innings pitched.  He had a career high 4.04 strikeout-to-walk ratio with 230 strikeouts on the season compared to 57 walks.

Marquez pitched in Game 163 against the Los Angeles Dodgers to determine the winner of the NL West.  Unfortunately for Marquez, he gave up 4 runs (2 earned) in only 4.2 innings pitched.  He did still manage to compile 9 strikeouts in the game, which further added to his single-season Rockies franchise strikeout record.

Marquez was the National League pitcher of the month in September.  He had four 11 strikeout performances, and five quality starts during the month.  Against the Brewers in his career, Marquez holds a 1-1 record with a 5.01 ERA and a 1.500 WHIP.  The Rockies will be counting on their newly crowned strikeout king to continue their postseason and allow Denver-native Kyle Freeland an opportunity to pitch Game 4 in front of his hometown crowd.

The Lineup for the Brewers against Marquez in Game 3

1. Lorenzo Cain, CF
2. Christian Yelich, RF
3. Ryan Braun, LF
4. Travis Shaw, 2B
5. Jesus Aguilar, 1B
6. Mike Moustakas, 3B
7. Erik Kratz, C
8. Orlando Arcia, SS
9. Wade Miley, LHP

The Starting Pitcher for the Brewers in Game 3 of the NLDS

Wade Miley will get the start for the Brewers as they attempt a sweep of the Rockies.  Miley was only 5-2 in the regular season through 16 starts.  He had an impressive 2.57 ERA, a 3.59 FIP, and a 1.215 WHIP through 80.2 innings pitched.  His strikeout-to-walk ratio was one of the lowest of his career at 1.85 while his career average is 2.27.

Miley has made 14 career appearances against the Rockies.  During those appearances, he holds a 7-2 record with a 3.89 ERA and a 1.307 WHIP.  At Coors Field throughout his career, he is 3-1 with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.518 WHIP.  As Miley has a decent amount of experience at Coors Field, the Brewers will hope that he can continue the trend of holding the Rockies offense to a very limited amount of runs.

The Lineup for the Rockies against Miley in Game 3

1. Charlie Blackmon, CF
2. DJ LeMahieu, 2B
3. Nolan Arenado, 3B
4. Trevor Story, SS
5. Matt Holliday, LF
6. Carlos Gonzalez, RF
7. Ian Desmond, 1B
8. Tony Wolters, C
9. German Marquez, RHP
