Keeping an eye towards the future.

Fans and the baseball world are going to have to wait, but they should see a rejuvenated Baltimore Orioles roster within the next three-four seasons. They are a club primed to dive deep into a rebuild, much like the Houston Astros did from 2011-2014.

More from Call to the Pen

Houston tore everything down, lost 90+ games for four consecutive seasons and acquired boatloads of talent. The Houston Astros are now looking to play for their second consecutive World Series Championship.

The Orioles are off to a good start with their talent acquisition. According to MLB Pipeline, Yusniel Diaz is now the club’s top-ranked prospect and is ranked 52nd overall. The club looks to be active on the international market as well, as they have around $6 million in International Bonus Pool money to try to entice prospects like Victor Victor Mesa or his brother, Victor Mesa Jr., into coming to Baltimore.

The Baltimore Orioles will continue to make headlines throughout the offseason. They still need to find a manager to replace Buck Showalter and a general manager to replace Dan Duquette. The Orioles’ roster is also far from being set. Mychal Givens, Dylan Bundy, and Jonathan Villar will likely be the center of trade rumors and Adam Jones’ future will surely be a topic of conversation. It’s too bad that the Orioles won’t be able to trade Chris Davis… The club will still be paying Davis until 2037 due to $42 million in deferred salary. The Orioles could be entering their second rebuild by the time they finish paying their slumping slugger!

All in all, fans should be optimistic about the Baltimore Orioles’ future. Even though times may be dark right now, there is hope on the horizon.
