For the next few days, many MLB contributors here on the site will be looking at every major league club through the eyes of the FanSided Mock GM Simulation. We will look at the Texas Rangers goals for the simulation here.

Winter means a lot of things for baseball fans. It means the winter meetings are on the horizon, players will be signed, traded, and let go and, for us here at FanSided, it means the FanSided Mock GM simulation. In this sim, I and over 30 other site experts and contributors from around FanSided’s MLB division will be working with one another to trade and sign players, as well as strengthen or rebuild their team.

It’s important to note that the trades that will be announced in the coming days from writers in this simulation are fake. Of course, trades could still happen, real trades made by the official GMs of MLB teams, but if there are the words “mock” “faux” or “fake,” in the title, then that article pertains to the simulation. That said, we will have tons of interesting news relating to the faux GM simulation being published in the coming days, so keep an eye out!

As for me, I am acting as the General Manager of the Texas Rangers. I am beyond excited about this and, if you’ve followed my writing, you know I love rebuilds. I love when a team can look into the future and create a plan for how they are going to win the World Series in, say, half a decade.

Theo Epstein’s rebuild of the Chicago Cubs makes him a genius in my book.

So, for this exercise, I will be setting the Rangers on the path of a mini-rebuild. The dominance of the Houston Astros and the growing strength of the Oakland A’s makes that division a tough one, but as the Rangers build their new stadium, I shall rebuild their team (for the next couple days, that is.)

The Rangers are kind of in a weird place right now. They aren’t at a full rebuild, won’t-contend-for-another-four-years kind of place, but they need a boost, a big one.

So keep an eye right here at Call to the Pen, as well as your other favorite FanSided MLB sites for all the GM simulation news, and tons of rivetting trades and signings!

Now, the question is; what will the Texas Rangers look like come the weekend? I’ll keep you posted on that one.
