The Seattle Mariners have made another trade continuing a busy start to their offseason.
The Seattle Mariners continued what they hope will be a short rebuild trading pitcher Alex Colome to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for catcher Omar Narváez.
This is a good trade for both teams as the Sox get a reliable late-game reliever. Meanwhile, Narváez gives Seattle a low-cost replacement for Mike Zunino whom they traded to the Rays earlier this offseason.
Narváez has been a solid offensive contributor during his 221 career MLB games. He sports a career .274 batting average while appearing in parts of the previous three seasons with Chicago. Although he doesn’t hit for much power, Narváez has shown the ability to work the count and take his fair share of walks.

The 26-year-old played in a career-high 97 games during the 2018 and has all of the tools to be a viable MLB catcher. Narváez hit .275 with a .366 on-base percentage across a career-high 322 plate appearances.
Narváez still needs to get better behind the plate defensively. He allowed 12 passed balls while compiling a slightly below-average 24% caught stealing. However, he does enough with the bat to make up for his limited defensive prowess and is a solid platoon option behind the dish.
The Seattle Mariners hope this rebuild will come together quickly. Following the trade of James Paxton earlier this month to the Yankees, which netted them an impressive haul, general manager Jerry Dipoto seems to be making the right moves.
This has already been a busy offseason for the Mariners and it doesn’t figure to slow down any time soon. The team is reportedly close to a deal involving Robinson Cano, among other veterans, and figures to be heavily involved in the hot stone festivities.
