Bryan Holaday has re-signed with the Miami Marlins on a minor-league deal, according to a recent report.
According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, the Miami Marlins have re-signed catcher Bryan Holaday to a minor-league contract. He also notes that Holaday will get an invite to major league spring training. Wells Dusenbury of the Sun Sentinel and Evan Woodbery of MLive also noted the move on Twitter.
Holaday, 31, is a journeyman if there ever was one. Having spent his seven-year major league career with four different teams, he’s never had a season in which he’s played in more than 65 games. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2010 draft by the Tigers, the same draft round that produced pitchers Kevin Gausman and Adam Plutko.
Recently, he appeared in 61 games for the Marlins, slashing .205/.261/.258 with one home run, 16 RBI, five doubles, 10 walks, and 29 strikeouts in 151 ABs. He primarily served as the backup to J.T. Realmuto.

Prior to joining the Marlins, he logged 121 games in two stints with the Detroit Tigers, slashing a cumulative .250/.279/.337 in parts of five seasons in Detroit, hitting three home runs and racking up 32 RBI. He also briefly served as a member of the Texas Rangers (29 games in 2016), and the Boston Red Sox (14 games, also in 2016).
Finally, he joined the Philadelphia Phillies in December 2016, but didn’t play a game for the organization, as he was released in March 2017. He joined the Marlins in November of that year after a second go-around in Detroit.
Hilariously enough, Holaday actually appeared as a pitcher this season for the Marlins, tossing two innings in two separate outings, surrendering three earned runs on four hits while giving up a home run and striking out a single batter. That single batter was Phillies youngster Rhys Hoskins.
For at least one season, Bryan Holady may have the same home, as he has re-signed with the Miami Marlins.
