New York Mets: Tim Tebow could happen in 2019
The New York Mets not only remain positive about Tim Tebow’s future, but they feel he could play a part on their roster in 2019.
The Tim Tebow Experience is going to continue next year. Chances are, he will begin 2019 in AAA for the New York Mets, as he looks to continue to build off a respectable 2018 campaign that had been cut short due to a broken hamate bone. Tebow had displayed some signs of competence last year, producing a reasonable .273/.336/.399 batting line with 14 doubles and six homers in 298 plate appearances.
Although the Mets infamously did not count Tebow out for Opening Day if he has a strong showing in Spring Training, that stint in AAA is his likely destination. Of course, per current GM, and Tebow’s former agent Brodie Van Wagenen, that means that he is one step away from the majors.
While that is the case with any player in AAA, this statement has a different meaning when it comes to Tebow. Van Wagenen has said that Tebow could be an option next season should a Mets outfielder be injured, and he proves to be the best player at the time.

The Mets are saying the right thing when it comes to Tebow and his chances for next year. He has certainly surpassed anyone’s wildest expectations with his performance in the minors, especially given his steady improvement as he ascends through the Mets system. Reaching the majors would be a testament to his hard work to become a viable professional baseball player.
In theory, there would be room for Tebow on the roster as well. Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto, and Juan Lagares are the expected starting outfield, at least until the injured Yeonis Cespedes returns. Tebow could find his way on the team, one way or another, as a backup.
However, the idea that Tebow will start the 2019 season in AAA is likely the best option. He is strictly a left fielder right now, limiting his usefulness should he reach the majors. Even though the former NFL quarterback does not possess a great arm, he could potentially learn to play right or first at Syracuse to make him more of an asset.
Of course, Tim Tebow needs to prove he can hit at AAA before he gets that chance with the New York Mets. If he can, he could get that chance at the major league level.
