Could the New York Mets, New York Yankees and Miami Marlins pull off a three-team trade? MLB trade rumors are swirling!

After a day one at MLB’s Winter Meetings that had a bunch of waiver claims, we have the MLB Trade Rumors bombshell that the winter meetings are famous for.

This is the kind of action we like to see. So let’s break this down a little bit.

More from Call to the Pen

First the New York Mets and New York Yankees making a deal, let alone a three team deal is shocking, but give credit to Brodie Van Waganen. He’s being creative, something he vowed to be since he took the job. Dealing a pitcher with the talent Syndergaard has would be a hard pill to swallow, but Realmuto may be the best catcher in the game today, and comes with two years of control. This seems to go against what Van Waganen has said, in that he didn’t want to create one hole to fix another.

For the New York Yankees, a rotation of Luis Severino, James Paxton, Noah Syndergaard and Masahiro Tanaka is quite formidable. It also comes at a cheaper rate than signing J.A. Happ, Dallas Keuchel or any of the other free agent arms. For arguments’ sake, maybe the Yankees take on Starlin Castro in this deal to fill second, use Miguel Andujar in the trade to the Marlins and then sign Manny Machado?

The Miami Marlins dealing with the New York Yankees does make some sense since many of the front office is Yankees south. Though, after their Giancarlo Stanton trade before last season, it would certainly be interesting to see them be trade partners again.

This three team deal would certainly be fun, and break NY twitter for a few hours. This is what MLB Trade Rumors season does though. I can’t see this kind of deal happening, though I could certainly see Realmuto in a Mets jersey in 2019.
