The Phillies Get an Outfielder

Then, there’s the Phillies, who on Tuesday shocked the baseball world by signing a star outfielder to a 3-year deal.

No, i’m not talking about Bryce Harper.

The Phillies committed 3-years and $50M to none other than Andrew McCutchen. McCutchen looks to be more of a security measure for the Phils than anything else. If the Phillies miss out on Harper and Manny Machado, at least they got themselves a proven leader who can get on-base with the best of them.

Not quite what Phillies fans expected, sure, but remember that it’s not over and the Phillies who have made it clear that they still intend to meet with Harper and Machado.

Yankees Get a Starting Pitcher… Or Nah

Ask any Yankees fan – heck, ask Brian Cashman – what the greatest area of weakness the Bronx Bombers had to address this offseason, and they will all say in unison starting pitchingOn Wednesday, the Yankees reportedly (may have) addressed that very need, albeit without necessarily addressing the weakness.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Yankees looked to have made a deal with J.A. Happ. Just nine minutes later, however, this happened.

J.A. Happ is no slouch, but he’s not exactly what anyone should consider an upgrade. With pitchers like Trevor Bauer, Corey Kluber, and Noah Syndergaard confirmed to be up fro grabs, why would the Yankees settle for a 36-year old who has been mediocre for his career?

Your guess is just as good as mine.
