The Seattle Mariners are changing the name of their stadium, the team announced Wednesday, putting an end to the life of Safeco Field.

According to an official team announcement, the Seattle Mariners‘ home ballpark, formerly known as Safeco Field, will now be known as T-Mobile Park.

Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reported in June that the Mariners and Safeco Insurance, who’d held the naming rights to the stadium opened in 1999, would not be renewing the agreement for the 2019 season and beyond.

According to Divish, the Safeco-Mariners partnership existed in 1998, even before Safeco Field originally opened. He also adds that since the announcement that Safeco would not be continuing on with the agreement, the organization had been actively seeking a new naming rights partner.

The release from the Mariners notes that the T-Mobile agreement will last for the next 25 years. John Legere, T-Mobile CEO, said that “T-Mobile Park isn’t just some corporate-branded sponsorship to us…this is about supporting the community and our hometown Mariners in building a World Series-caliber team!”

The release also notes that the “process of incorporating the T-Mobile branding assets throughout the ballpark will take place over the coming months. Much of it is expected to be completed by Opening Day on March 28, 2019, when the Mariners meet the Boston Red Sox.” It’ll be interesting to see how the stadium will look with the altered appearance and branding.
