It’s been a rather busy weekend for the New York Mets. One day after acquiring Keon Broxton from the Milwauke Brewers to add more outfield depth, they acquire some more depth on the corners in a five player deal with the Houston Astros.

The headliner is J.D. Davis, who was the Astros third-round pick back in 2014. He’s gotten a little bit of time with Houston over the past two seasons. With the Astros last year, he hit .175 with a .471 OPS in 113 plate appearances, however, in AAA he hit .342 with a .988 OPS. He’s played first, third and the corner outfield spots, so he gives the Mets additional depth at those spots.
Bohanek is a utility infielder, who at three levels last season, hit a combined .214 with a .617 OPS.
Adolph was the New York Mets 12th round pick last year, and at Brooklyn in short-season ball, hit .276 with an .857 OPS and 14 steals. Santana is a 19 year old infielder out of the Dominican Repubilc who made his first appearance in the minors in the US last year. In 53 games at Kingsport, he hit .348 with a .917 OPS in 242 plate appearances. Manea is a 22 year old catcher, who at Columbia, in A ball, hit .261 with an .800 OPS in 100 games.
Santana was ranked 24th in MLBpipeline’s top 30 rankings for the New York Mets.
Davis seems like a replacement for Wilmer Flores, someone with pop from the right side and can play multiple positions, although he doesn’t play middle infield. He also has two options left, so it give the New York Mets some roster flexibility.
Davis could be an interesting depth piece for the New York Mets in 2019.
