Coming off one of their worst seasons in franchise history, how can the Baltimore Orioles regain the fan base?

The Baltimore Orioles fanbase has been around since 1954 through the good times and the bad with everything in-between. However, the Orioles suffered their worst season in their 64 years of existence in 2018.

It’s hard to argue the fact that the fanbase has lost its luster in the past 21 years. By the end of last year, the seats were empty and Camden Yards, one of the best ballparks in the United States remained vacant.

This past offseason the Baltimore Orioles have embraced the rebuilding process as well as pulling all the stops when it comes to bringing the fans back to the glory days.

So how can they engage the fans in 2019?

Involve players from the past

The Orioles will need to tap into their rich sports history to prepare for a lengthy rebuild. The legendary third baseman, Brooks Robinson, has been around the organization since the beginning. The front office decided to bring him back fully since the fall of 2018 fully now to keep the bridge of the past to accept the future of this ballclub. This is a genius idea from the organization.

Let us be honest, the rebuilding process is not an easy road to travel so eventually fans will need familiarity to embrace the past, accept the present, and prepare for the future. This is an all-on-board project and if this means bringing fans in with a sense of nostalgia then by all means make it so.

More recently, the organization decided to set up fanfest with the likes of Eddie Murray and Brooks Robinson. Near the end of last season, Brooks Robinson became more visible at Oriole home games and even made a special video to fans in regards to his involvement with the organization. Not many ballclubs have the backing of all their legends. The fanbase in Baltimore have been blessed to still have 90% of their Hall of Famers still living and involved around what is a proud franchise.
