The Philadelphia Phillies have a dream for the future, one that involves pairing either Manny Machado or Bryce Harper with Mike Trout.
We all have dreams in life. In my case, I dream of one day being something other than an alcoholic blogger who utterly detests his day job and is disappointed that he survived another night every time I wake up. Then, my alarm goes off, and I have another day to mark off the calendar until my eventual death.
The Philadelphia Phillies are no different in having dreams of a better future. However, the path diverges once we get to the subject of their dreams. For now, the visions dancing in their heads involve having either Manny Machado or Bryce Harper wearing a Phillies uniform, helping them return to the postseason.
Yet, that is not where the dream ends. The Phillies vision extends beyond this offseason, ahead to the 2021 campaign. That year, they have visions of Mike Trout joining either Harper or Machado in Philadelphia, adding yet another star to the roster.

In fact, their moves this offseason have been with Trout in mind. The Phillies not only hope to have that All Star outfield of Trout, Harper, and Andrew McCutchen, but a supporting cast that would be more than worthy of such an explosive trio. They are also reportedly eyeing Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel, looking to have the type of roster that could win for years to come.
As the saying goes, if one is to dream, dream big. The Phillies are certainly doing that, as they are eyeing the cream of the crop in the 2018-19 free agent class. Of course, as intriguing as Harper and Machado are, they pale in comparison to the baseball force of nature known as Mike Trout.
Yet, just like every other dream in the history of humanity, this could just be a kingdom in the clouds. Harper and Machado are not bereft of suitors, and both could spurn the Phillies for other locations. Trout could well sign an extension to remain in Los Angeles, or join a team like the Yankees. Hell, he could decide to partner up with his buddy Jim Cantore, and be the ringer for The Weather Channel’s softball team. If they give Trout some bonus hurricane assignments, one never knows…
We all have dreams in life. The Philadelphia Phillies are no different, as they are looking to put together a roster any fantasy owner would be proud of.
