4. Oakland Athletics
Blake Treinen was nearly unhittable in 2019 and wound up being the best relief pitcher in all of MLB last season.
His numbers are absurd as he posted a 0.78 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in 80.1 innings pitched with 100 strikeouts and 38 saves.
It’s hard not to have the A’s on this list when they have the best reliever in all of baseball right now.
But Treinen isn’t the whole package, they went out and picked up veteran Joakim Soria this offseason. In 2018 he had a 3.12 ERA in 60.2 innings with 75 strikeouts and will replace the loss of Jeurys Familia.
Lou Trivino had a breakout 2018 season in which he posted a 2.92 ERA in 74 innings pitched with 82 strikeouts. He’ll likely be the setup man this season.
Yusmeiro Petit is a valuable arm in the bullpen as he can go multiple innings to bridge the gap to Treinen. Last year he threw 93 innings in 74 games with a 3.00 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.
Fernando Rodney still has his moments and adds a veteran presence. Ryan Buchter is another power arm they can use at the back end of games.
