Minnesota Twins

Another team who is looking to contend this season that could use a third baseman is the Minnesota Twins.

Willians Astudillo is currently listed as the team’s starting third baseman, and while he had a nice cup of tea with the big league club in 2018, I don’t think they are counting on him being their every day third baseman in 2019.

The Twins already went out and signed Nelson Cruz this offseason to be their DH and to help bolster the lineup. But they still have a lot of work to do if they are going to catch the Indians.

The good thing for the Twins is that they play in the AL Central, which is by far the worst division in baseball right now. And it sounds like the best team in the division, the Indians, are trying to cut payroll.

I’m sure the Twins feel like they have a chance to contend in the division with just a couple of moves, trading for Evan Longoria would be a big step towards reaching that goal.

Like with the other teams on this list, Longoria brings a veteran presence to a young lineup.

The Twins payroll for the 2019 season is just under $90 million, so they should have a little room left to take on Longoria’s big contract.
