In a long-hoped-for move, the San Diego Padres are bringing back tradition.

It’s the news every Padres fan has been waiting for – the San Diego Padres are bringing back the brown!

According to Kevin Acee, the San Diego Padres will wear brown jerseys full time starting in 2020.

The Padres have notified Major League Baseball of their plans to wear new uniforms in 2020.

The organization had ‘conducted’ focus groups testing the different brown jerseys on Wednesday and Thursday. There were reportedly three home and three away options that were shown to 250 San Diego Padres fans, and all of the combinations featured brown and gold.

“The home uniform choices included a pinstripe white version and two solid white versions with brown lettering and gold accents,” Acee said. “”Road choices were a solid tan and brown uniform and two choices that included a rich brown jersey with tan and brown pants, one of which had pinstripes.”

The club has until May to submit its final versions of the jerseys to Major League Baseball.

From the club’s first year in 1969 to 1984 when they won the National League Pennant, the team wore some version of brown and gold uniforms.

Then, they moved to brown and orange and eventually to blue and orange with pinstripes which was notably seen in the ’98 World Series against the Yankees.

There have been different variations of brown and gold jerseys that the Friars have worn.

In 1978 their home jersey was white with lowercase padres in gold and brown sleeves, and their road uniform was brown with gold lowercase padres and gold sleeves.

In ’84 they rolled out the brown and orange jerseys, but they were simpler than their previous jerseys. They were white jerseys with lowercase padres in orange, and it was the hat that was brown. The road jerseys were the fan favorite as they were brown with yellow lowercase padres.
