While doing a media tour during the Super Bowl for Gatorade, Oakland Athletics Kyler Murray had quite the awkward moment on the Dan Patrick Show.
The Oakland Athletics may have gotten one of the best athletes in the country during last year’s MLB Draft in Kyler Murray, but he could use some work on his interview skills.
When asked about his future on the Dan Patrick Show Friday morning the ninth overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft was speechless … and boy was it uncomfortable.
Kyler Murray is about as smooth as they come on a baseball or football field, but he was anything but smooth during this interview.
First of all, how do the people around Kyler let him go out there this unprepared? And it’s not like this was the first interview he did all week, so I’m not sure why these questions trip him up so much.
I understand the youngster is in a tough spot because he can’t say much to tip his hand one way or the other, but say something!
Dan Patrick asked him if he was going to the NFL Combine and he just shrugged. And then he asked him if he was having a Pro Day and said he doesn’t know before finally saying “yeah, sure.”
And then when Patrick asked him when he needed to report for Spring Training Kyler answered right away, “February 15.” But then when Patrick asked him if he was reporting for Spring Training he once again said he doesn’t know.
I’ve watched the clip several times and get’s more and more uncomfortable every time I watch the video.

For the Oakland Athletics, you have to feel sort of good that he at least knew when Spring Training started. Maybe somebody should tell him that’s only two weeks away, so he better figure it out soon.
At the end of that clip he does say that those questions will “soon be answered.”
Everyone already knows that Murray has at least declared for the NFL Draft, so that’s no surprise. But I guess the reason he’s keeping things quiet is because he hasn’t broken his commitment to the Oakland Athletics.
According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, this only becomes a problem for the Oakland Athletics if he were to leave Spring Training for the combine, which explains why Murray was hesitant to answer that particular question.
The combine takes place towards the end of February, so something has to give sooner or later. There is still the chance that Murray shows up for Spring Training on February 15 but then leaves for the combine anyway, dragging this thing out to the last minute.
A lot of NFL scouts are predicting that Murray could be a first-round pick, and if that’s the case, I have a feeling the Oakland Athletics are going to lose Murray.
