We will be compiling a list of the top three players at each position including designated hitter leading into Spring Training. These MLB best lists are based on career stats/accomplishments, 2018 statistics, and especially their projections going into 2019. Today we continue with Third Base.

Yesterday I went through the top shortstops right now, so the next position up in the MLB best series is third base. This list is easily the hardest one to make because of the talent at the position, and their projections going into the season.

Without further ado, there are only three spots on the list, so let’s go through the All-Stars that were just short:

MLB Best – Just Missed

Alex Bregman (Houston Astros)

Alex Bregman made a huge jump in 2018, setting career high’s in hits, doubles, home runs, and RBI’s in addition to winning the 2018 All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award.

Bregman was not able to make the list simply because it is only his third season, and it was his first All-Star season, and it does not help his cause that this is arguably the deepest position in the game.

Kris Bryant (Chicago Cubs)

Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant still had a decent season but was not able to stay on the field with some injuries, only playing just over 100 games. He is still one of the best players in the game if he can get back to his 2016 and 2017 form, but again there is just too much depth at this position.

Anthony Rendon (Washington Nationals)

Anthony Rendon does not get the respect he deserves because he is in Washington and has been overshadowed by Bryce Harper the last few seasons.

Rendon has hit over .300 for the second straight year with 24 home runs, so I can’t wait to see what he can do as the guy in that Nationals lineup this season (assuming they do not sign Harper).

Let’s get into the list. My #3 third basemen got to the World Series for the second straight season…
